We’re so excited to have musical guest Another Bard dropping by Movie Madhouse this Sunday to serenade us with what I’m sure will be a holiday classic any day now. The song was featured in our most recent production of Select Thine Own Journey, but originally came from the NZ television movie The Monster’s Christmas that we’ll be screening first on Sunday. It wasn’t Another Bard’s hit song “I Am Tombus Bombadillus”, the performance of which was so beautifully captured here by , if that helps you narrow it down! Come see Another Bard in all their wintery glory this Sunday at 7:30pm only at the 4 Star Theater (ticket link in bio)!

This Sunday, Movie Madhouse presents a double feature of weird holiday films including “The Life & Adventures of Santa Claus” (1985). This was the last film produced by Rankin & Bass who brought us such classic holiday films as “Frosty the Snowman” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”. But for their final outing, they decided to produce the most metal, pagan “Christmas” movie imaginable. Based on a book from L Frank Baum, creator of the Marvelous World of Oz, this film follows the Faerie Court as they put Santa on trial to determine if he’s earned immortality. It’s absolutely delightful and strange, not to mention visually stunning, so kick off your holiday season with Media Meltdown this Sunday by grabbing you tickets at 4-star-movies.com (link in bio)

This Sunday, we’ll be screening a double feature of weirdo holiday movies at the , including The Monster’s Christmas, a bizarre 1981 New Zealand television film that has almost no references to Christmas but plenty of other wild hijinks. Fans of our show Select Thine Own Journey might recognize that this movie was an inspiration on our latest production and we’ll be having Select star performing live to highlight the crossover! All these and a lot more surprises in store this Sunday at the 4 Star (ticket link in bio)!

In just one week, Media Meltdown will be celebrating the holidays Movie Madhouse-style with a double feature of two of the strangest "Christmas" movies (emphasis on the quotation marks) we've ever seen!

First up, we've got The Monster's Christmas, a 1981 New Zealand TV movie about a little girl who teams up with some very disturbing creatures to help them reclaim their voices from an evil witch! We'll do a little show for y'all and then jump into The Life & Adventures of Santa Claus! All you Wicked fans should get amped for this one because it's based off a book by L. Frank Baum who wrote the Oz series. But don't expect any ruby slippers or Dr. Dildoman in this one - it's the most metal, pagan Christmas movie imaginable as Santa Claus is put on trial by the Fae Court to determine if he deserves to become an immortal.

If you're like us and even a Die Hard or Eyes Wide Shut aren't quite weird enough for your annual holiday viewing, we've got you covered! Once again, we'll be opening this one up to an all ages audience but only bring your cool little punks cause this one is for the freaks. See you next Sunday!

We had such an amazing time hosting the Northern California premiere of S/HE IS STILL HER/E - The Official Genesis P-Orridge documentary two Thursdays ago! We’re still so thrilled that the screening sold out and additional screenings continue to do well at the Roxie, but that opening night in conversation with director David Charles Rodrigues and Genesse and Caresse P-Orridge was so magical. We’re incredibly grateful to them and everyone else who worked on this film for creating such a beautiful love letter to a singular artist. We’ve seen the doc multiple times now and I can’t wait to watch it again! If you haven’t yet, go grab your tickets to the final Roxie screening this Wednesday!

Having also played as The Floating Corpses, Moira Scar, and V.E.X., Bat Noise is the most freaky elemental and sonic essential mutation of the outfit. Bat Noise is LuLu Gammaray: theremin, synth, samples, vocals, trombone. Roxy Monoxide: tenor sax, floor tom, vocals, FX.

We’re so excited to announce the next Media Meltdown Movie Madhouse is DRAGHOULA (1995) on 11/17! Picture it - you’re a French Canadian and it’s the 90s and you have no money, but are obsessed with Rocky Horror and Anne Rice, so you decide to make a low budget film about a repressed scientist who gets bitten by a Transylvanian rat and turns into a cross-dressing vampire! And if you are that filmmaker, call us (we paid for IMDBPro and LinkedIn Premium trying to get ahold of you)!! We’ve been OBSESSED with this movie for years and are so excited to screen it in a theater using the $75 VHS we bought on eBay!

Plus, we’ll be kicking off the evening with a set by industrial doom jazz deathwave legends Bat Noise! Just because it’ll be mid-November, who says spooky season is over?? At the Movie Madhouse, everyday is Halloween so come prepared to get weird with us! Free vampire fangs to all crossdressers in the audience so we can all be creatures of the night!

This incredible poster is by the amazingly talented Harry Nordlinger !

The Mystery of MEDIA MELTDOWN

Media Meltdown is a drag show for weirdos founded in May 2019 by San Francisco-based performers Franzia Kafka and Piranha. With themes celebrating cult media, nostalgic deep cuts, and immersive experiences, Media Meltdown combines drag with decor, curated playlists, mind-bending visuals, and other interactive elements to take you on an acid trip through your childhood VHS collection. During times when bars are open, check us out every third Sunday at the Make Out Room in SF and at our rotating series at the Alamo Drafthouse where we screen cult movies related to our month’s drag theme! Check out our Twitch to see our digital drag shows as well as movie watch parties, live readings of sci-fi literature, indie video game playthrus, and more!
