Thank you to everyone who inquired about flowers. Our Mothers Day crop flowered 3wks earlier than it was supposed to this year & with the uncertainty of rain events on the forecast we decided to just pick & send everything out early.
Lucky enough to make use of short stems for a few ceramic arrangements going out as gifts. I am thoroughly enjoying Mothers Day weekend at a much slower pace than usual.

I went over the Chrysanthemum's last week taking notes on which ones will make the propagation list for 2024.
Can't believe this one hadn't made the cut. It first opens to a not so nice brownish colour, but if you leave it & let it open right up omg it changes to the most amazing fluffy peach.
I think I'll be adding it to the list ......
Sad to say that our Dahlia season has come to an end. This has been one of our most enjoyable & successful Dahlia seasons to date.
Getting stuck into labelling & cutting everything back this week. Now the excitement builds on what has been going on under the ground rather than on top.
Let the planning for next season begin
I read something recently that said
" Not every flower blooms all year round so don't expect yourself to"
Reminding myself of this as I dragged my butt around a w**d infested flower patch in consecutive 40° days last week.
While I don't bloom so well in the Summer months the Summer blooms are just amazing! You just have to keep on keeping on .....

It's been nice to put together a few larger bouquets in past few weeks.
Organically grown flowers fresh from the farm. It doesn't get any better than that
Hard to believe has just ticked over Spring #7.
It is not like me to stick to something for this long, I usually get itchy feet after 3 years & start craving change.
7 years spent chasing a crazy floral dream, mixed with a WHOLE lot of hard work, sweat, tears, persistence & resilience.
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported our little flower farm over the past 7 years.
While I don't think I'll be retiring anytime soon I can definitely say my 💜 is full & I absolutely love what I do!
2024 brings some exciting changes. I can officially quit my teenage taxi service job in March opening up more free time to chase flower dreams that have been brewing for a lot of years....

Nice little cut of Zinnia's this week.
Pink's are coming, we had a few germination issues due to fluctuating temps back in August.
Happy to say all colours are having amazing germination atm with our early Summer temps.
Can't wait, these guys are such Summer staples.

It's beginning to feel a whole lot like Summer around here. Grateful for an abundant Spring 🙏 hours of planning & manual labour through Winter paying off.
As always some things worked & some didn't. That's the beauty of farming, you can have another crack again next year

I haven't dived into the Dahlia seed trend as yet but I have definitely dabbled with the Zinnia's.
Sorting Zinnia seed has been one of those perfect monotonous jobs to do during the heat of the day this week.
Excited to see what interesting new varieties come from this seasons seed.

I love how the strawflowers open up as the day goes on. It completely changes the whole arrangement.

Lots of notes on what worked, what didn't & what I could of grown a whole lot more of. Expanding my growing space this year & thinking of definitely expanding my Winter crops next year.
It would have to be one of my favourite seasons to farm in.

We have sadly hit a bit of a lull in the flowers. We had a delay with our seed order back in January & also a load of compost that cooked hundreds of seedlings in a 24hr period. I knew this would come back to bite us at some point & now here it is.
On a positive note I am pretty stoked that this is the first time in 12mths we have no flowers. Growing is such a snooze you lose game. Continually sowing, planting & picking without missing a beat is not easy & it's something that has taken me years to achieve.
Our Winter crop is still a few weeks away but behind the scenes we are already running out of bed space for our early to late Spring crops.
Sending out a huge Thank You to everyone in & who have supported our little flower farm for yet another year. We really do appreciate it 🙏

Autumn would have to be my absolute favourite.
Chrysanthemum cuttings taken in Spring are w**ded & fussed over for months.
Still didn't quite reach the Chrysanthemum goals i had for 2023 & sadly the local wallabies have taken a liking to them 🙈 but as growing flowers goes, there is always next year
Make the most of them while they last, I'm not sure these will make Mothers Day this year.

Saving these guys from the rain.. 2 La Niña events in 12 months, the weather is just as crazy as the bloody pandemic Another week, another 100mm of rain 😬 Its #timetogo #laniña already!!
Summer Pickings!! With a second La Nina event for the year underway im just enjoying these while I can. We are at that stage where we are playing russian roulette with severe storms on a daily basis. And the forecast for the next 3 months is a a possible 800+ mm on top of the 270mm we have already had in the past 3 weeks. My mantra this time around is I'm just gunna "wing it" & what will be, will be. I can't change the weather so I'm just going to have to accept the card I'm delt & deal with it the best i can. Thinking of all the other farmers on the east coast who are also trying to make ends meet in these challenging times. #congarinni_bush_gems
Managed to scrape together enough flowers for my beautiful Mother in Law on her birthday.
End of Summer reality!! What people envision to be a beautiful flower filled garden is actually a weed infested nightmare. Our little piece of paradise has had over 600mm of rain in just over 2 months & its definitely taking its toll on everything. Paddock grasses seem to grow a foot overnight. So many losses this season just to bloody weeds. And then there's the flower rot that follows when you have back to back flooding rain. We have pretty much been in semi drought since we started 4 years ago & looking back it has been much easier growing when you can control the amount of water the plants get (as long as you have water, that is) Accepting the things I can't change & venting my frustration by taking to beds with the brush cutter last week. Another 400mm forecast for the next 3 months so unfortunately it feels like we're not out of the woods yet. Loving the fact that Autumn is here & the days will eventually start to cool down. Time to reflect on this hot season and take note of any changes that need to be made for next Summer. Definately taking on next Summer with a work smarter not harder approach. Bring on the Autumn & Winter crops!!
