URGENT POST: (long post alert)
PLEASE SHARE THIS POST…WE NEED AS MANY PEOPLE TO SEE THIS AS POSSIBLE!. If you know of anyone who is in a position to help, please let them know about this family.
We have chosen our family for this year’s Operation Fabulous Christmas. Thank you all for the nominations. This family is in such dire and extreme need, we have decided to focus solely on this one family and this might be the biggest undertaking for this project to date so I am going to need everyone’s help more than ever to pull this off!
We have selected a single family of 8 people consisting of parents and 6 children ranging in ages from 2-11 years of age. I have done a great deal of research on this family and they have been fully vetted and when I say this family is in need, that is quite the understatement. It’s BAD. When I first found out about this family, it was such an urgent situation I knew I needed to help them as soon as possible. The family is currently homeless and living in a motel room with 2 beds so most of the children are having to sleep on the floor. I actually had the opportunity to meet with his family at their motel room a few nights ago and in all my years of doing this project I don’t think I have experienced a situation anywhere near this bad. The parents are so kind and humble and honestly doing everything in their power to better the situation for their children butthis is just a very bad and difficult situation to navigate. This young father is struggling daily to take care of his family and is working every odd job he can come across to try to keep their heads above water. Unfortunately, the motel cost is $50 per night in addition to daily cost of food, diapers and other unavoidable expenses so the money he works for is practically gone before it reaches his hands and it’s impossible for him to catch up or get ahead and the situation just gradually worsens.
Normally, I work every year to provide Christmas for the children, but I knew immediately this was going to be a different situation. First, before I even think about Christmas, I have to find a way to make sure this family gets a permanent place to stay that is clean and safe for these children. I am currently working to acquire a mobile home or house that I can get them into as soon as possible but at the same time one that is affordable for them, so they will be able to maintain and stay afloat financially in the future. The family was evicted from their home several months back, and all of their possessions were removed from the home and were taken. So everything they own they have in the hotel room with them and it’s very little. So, my first priority is to get them into a permanent space and provide them with the things they need to survive. I have checked with local government and charitable organizations about getting them a home and place to stay and unfortunately there is a waiting list for low income housing right now… The family is on the waiting list, however, I have been told that it could be as long as a year or more before they would be able to secure that type of housing. unfortunately, this family is out of options and desperately need our help.
We are going to be in need of clothing for the children and parents, as well as used furniture, toiletries, towels, bedding, food… any and all household items … Pretty much everything they need to survive on a daily basis. Please let me know if you have any furniture, clothing, household items really anything that you could donate to help this family out in this critical situation. I will be posting the family’s clothing sizes, and other needs in the comments of this post as we go. I want to thank everyone in advance for any help you can give us in trying to help this family… This is going to be hard and not easy by any means, but I know we can do it! I will be posting drop off point within the city and for larger items. I will make arrangements to have those items picked up if needed.
We will also be accepting monetary donations and will be thankful for any amount big or small so that we can hopefully pay deposits and moving expenses to get this family in a permanent safe space in the next few days.
Once we are able to get this family in a safe permanent space, we will begin to work on trying to help them with Christmas for the children.
I will keep everyone updated as we go through this process and hopefully we will be able to help this family get back to a point where they can have a fresh start.
Since we are in such great need of monetary donations for moving costs and deposits once we are able to find them a home, we will be accepting donations through Venmo, CashApp, Zelle or donations can be mailed to the Honey and Hive office. Please message us if you need any further information.
