CAFEO has had a long journey, of more than four decades!
It all started back in 1973, when The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and The Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES) held the IEM/IES Engineering Convention to promote interaction and rapport for their members.
By 1980, this collaboration grew to include more ASEAN engineering bodies - and during the 2nd CEISEAN held in Manila in February 1980, an agreement was reached for the formation of the ASEAN FEDERATION OF ENGINEERING ORGANISATIONS (AFEO) and its constitution was drafted.
The 3rd CEISEAN held in April 1981, the Guiding Principles for the Conference of AFEO (CAFEO) were adopted. Application to the ASEAN Secretariat was approved and subsequently the 4th CEISEAN held in Indonesia 1982 was renamed: CAFEO 1, hosted annually by different member instituions in rotation.
Fast forward to this year, with 10 member organisations, we convene for CAFEO 42 in Kota Kinabalu, we celebrate this rich history of collaboration and the continuous pursuit of innovation and excellence in the engineering field across ASEAN. Join us in advancing the future of engineering in our vibrant region.

The government is planning to build 18 waste-to-energy (WTE) plants that combust solid waste to produce electricity in the peninsula by 2040, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
“According to a survey by the National Solid Waste Management Department, the WTE plant is capable of generating 600 megawatts of renewable energy,” said Minister of Housing and Local Government, YB Nga Kor Ming.

The Soft Launch of CAFEO 42 was held in Wisma IEM on 31st May 2024.
