1. What would you say is the primary genre you choose to perform?
DnB, trap, dubstep, and Grime.

2. Who are your favorite artists to listen to in your free time?
I love P Money, Aitch, Chase & Status, and Flowdan.

3. When did you start making music/DJing, and what influenced you?
I’ve been DJing since 2018 and was heavily influenced by being in the scene for years after going to Shambhala. That year, I made the commitment.

4. Do you have a favorite piece of music you have made, and where can people check it out? If not, share a favorite of someone else!
My unreleased flip of a 50-cent song is my favorite piece, and you can see me play it in my set on the 7th!

5. Do you have any upcoming releases or events that you are excited about?
I am working on releasing the flip I just talked about here soon, but I don’t have an exact date yet.

6. Is there anyone local to the PNW you see doing big things that you want to give a S/O to?
There are so many amazing artists, but a few I want to give shoutouts to are HEIRZ, SUBCHVRGE, Yama, and GLTY for all the stuff they have been making recently, as it really resonates with me.

7. What would you say is the most rewarding part of being an artist?
Seeing people smiling or dancing to music is most definitely my favorite part of being an artist.

1. What would you say is the primary genre you choose to perform?
Dubstep, DNB, House, Trance, Techno, Industrial, Hip-hop—anything that pays respects to my name that means multiple sounds.

2. Who are your favorite artists to listen to in your free time?
Nine Inch Nails, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, Current Value, The Widdler, Ternion Sound, Truth, anything Deep, Dark, & Dangerous, AC Slater, MPH, Chase & Status, Shpongle, DRRTYWULVZ, Bogtrotter, BoggDogg, Prof, King Scooby, Polisonyx, and many more.

3. When did you start making music/DJing, and what influenced you?
MF DOOM, Marilyn Manson (unfortunately), but I didn’t know he was a trash human being when I was 9 years old to a teenager. I got into DJing because I love electronic music. That’s one reason I don’t limit what I mix because of my vast love for it all.

4. Do you have a favorite piece of music you have made, and where can people check it out? If not, share a favorite of someone else!
It’s not out yet. It will be out in October!

5. Do you have any upcoming releases or events that you are excited about?
My Rex Infernus DNB project and much more from Polisonyx (tbh, most of Polisonyx isn’t really EDM, but it is still electronic).

6. Is there anyone local to the PNW you see doing big things that you want to give a S/O to?
King Scooby!

7. What would you say is the most rewarding part of being an artist?
Being able to make music that I love to create and feeling fulfilled in that venture.

Only one more day until Friday...
but we still got plentyyyy of Sbkallday left for ya!

Do you have any upcoming releases or events that you are excited about?:
My good friend Nowa and I did a collab/remix for the Secret Recipe – Time Arrow remix contest (that track is really good!), and it will be released after the contest ends. I will be playing a bunch of smaller festivals that cater to weird bass-heavy music this summer. One of them that I can talk about is Bigfoot Campout. It is going to be off the chain this year! There are many amazing artists and takeovers, with one of the best sound systems I have ever heard. The rest are still in the works… I have a lot going on this summer!

What are some of your favorite types of music and artists?:
I love Trap music, bass music of all flavors and BMPs, Drum and Bass, Dubstep ranging from mild to wild, and evocative vocal house music. I honestly just like all kinds of music with a heavy low end that makes you feel something… I’m looking for an electrochemical response when I listen to music. Some of my favorite producers are Moor Kismet, G-Jones (older is better, sorry), ISOXO, Annix, Avila, Iany, Lab Group, L.O.J, Eliminate, Bakermat, QZB, High Contrast, Carbin, Cheyenne Giles, Camoufly, Minesweepa, Party Wave, and Eater. That would be a diverse and incredible festival lineup! lol.

Happy Wednesday, Elated fam!
We got some more Sbkallday Q&A for ya!

What are your favorite events you have performed at and why?:
One of the most memorable shows I've performed at was in Selma called Waterworld 2. It was insane! They had 10 Labhorns on the main stage, and I played one of the side stages for 2-3 hours. After that, a bunch of other DJs showed up, and I thought to myself, “Finally, one of you has to take over,” and they looked at me and said, “Dude pack your sh*t up. You're playing on the mainstage next,” I was so stoked! We partied till dawn, then even went to an after-party. They shot the corks from an entire case of champagne at us as we got out of the car, then handed us personal mimosas. Not even kidding.

Other memorable shows include playing the first stop of the Yheti, Taodface, and Mt. Aanaloge Trifinity tour at The Edge in Medford, Oregon. Every Boombox in the Boondox was amazing, Trap Breakfast at Deep Summit was a blast, and Winter Onsieland 1-7 Cosmic Campout on my birthday in 2015. The homie Phydra was hosting Reboot, and I got to open up for legendary artists like Shield, Ovoid, Shamanic Technology, Deadcrow, Djedi, and so many more I honestly can’t even remember.

In addition, People Music hit me up towards the end of 2022 and asked if I was free on Jan 13th, 2023, and I was all about it. Little did I know I would play after Stylust, Meso, and Tsou in the gallery at one of the most iconic Seattle clubs, Monkey Loft.

What is your favorite piece of music you have made, and where can people check it out?:
It’s that song “You Know The One.”
People can check it out on my SoundCloud; it’s my first DnB track.

It’s Monday, and we’re BACK!
This week's artist highlight is all about Sbkallday 🛹

When did you start making music/DJing, and what influenced you?:
I was DJing at house parties in my backyard before 2010. Then 2010 happened… I knew a bunch of people involved with and putting on SubGenetics, and in 2010, they put me on Friday at 8pm in front of hundreds of people to fill in for an artist who was running late. I think what initially influenced me was my love of bass and bass music and this insane pile of labhorns called the Nautilus system. I started making music around. My influences in the earliest days were the DJs I saw at Burning Man in the early 2000s, like Jansten, PANTyRAID, The Glitch Mob, Heyoka, the ones we don’t talk about anymore… and other early dubstep artists like Rusko, Caspa, Skream, Hatcha, Joker, Charlie P. And then also artists who evolved from that like Zeds Dead, Calvin Harris, Nero, and Mt Eden. Such an incredible time to be into bass music in general!

Do you have any upcoming releases or events that you are excited about?:
My good friend Nowa and I did a collab/remix for the Secret Recipe – Time Arrow remix contest (that track is really good!!), and it will be released after the contest ends. I will be playing a bunch of smaller festivals that cater to weird bass-heavy music this summer.

One of them I can talk about is Bigfoot Campout which is THIS WEEKEND! (6/30-7/3) it is going to be off the chain this year! There are many amazing artists and takeovers with one of the best sound systems I have ever heard… the rest are still in the works, and I have a lot going on this summer!

WE MADE IT TO FRIDAY, FAM!
We got just a few more Q&A's from ZOF!

What do you like to do in your free time outside of music?:
Honestly, almost everything I do in my free time has something to do with music either directly or indirectly. But I like to play Overwatch (I’ve been maining Mei recently) and I occasionally play other video games too. Most nights I’ll wind down with a video game or watching a show or movie. I love to hang out with my dogs and of course spending time with my friends. I’m a math and science tutor as my PT day job, mostly high school kids, so while that’s not technically “free time” I really enjoy teaching math, and I get excited when I get a chemistry student since that was what my focus was for my BS. Plus, the kids are cool and funny and I learn from them too. I like reading nonfiction or scifi when I have the attention span for a book, and I love me a good wikipedia hole on some random topic until 3am. Basically I’m a huge nerd and if you give me more than a couple drinks at the party I’ll prob info dump some weird s**t. I’m an indoor cat on the weekdays and then I like to go out on the weekends if I’m not playing shows.

Who are some artists local to the PNW you see doing big things that you want to shout out to?:
I, of course, need to shout out my partner and love but also an incredibly talented and accomplished audio engineer, Alexander Hume. Alex has built up their business Hume Audio by mastering and engineering music for hundreds of artists and record labels locally and internationally, and I’m just so proud of them. Seeing them work with bigger and bigger clients and seeing their constant drive to improve inspires me to do the same in my work. Plus, I’d never trust another engineer to master my tracks ;)

Tony H is continuously killing the game and needs to be shouted out ten billion times. Super talented, super kind, and just all-around someone who makes me happy whenever I see him. Also, he played at Coachella this year!!! The dude’s on fire.

Liz Somes is making incredible music and recently placed as a finalist for the Pete Tong DJ Academy DJ Mag future talent awards! She’s an awesome DJ and producer and so deserving of the recognition she’s getting. I hope I get to see her play Printworks or Ibiza or something someday.

WEiRD WAiFU is also doing big things, and she’s the sweetest! She makes dope bass music, and it’s been so fun watching her grow as an artist and play bigger and bigger shows. We went to college at Evergreen together and initially bonded on a class trip to Yellowstone because I noticed she was wearing a Shambhala bracelet (and we were the only ones with bright-colored hair in the class, haha). To see us both doing what we’re doing now is just so cute.

Only one more day until Friday… WE GOT THIS!
Let’s see what’s up with ZOF today, shall we?

Do you have any upcoming releases or events that you are excited about?:
I have a track coming out on May 19th called Day One on a compilation for Dome Of Doom that I’m super excited about. It’s really different from everything else I’ve released so far. I also have a collab with GAWP and Elijah & Grundy coming out in July on North Of Neptune that’s a super cool deep house roller, and I’m really stoked about the vocals I did for this one. I’m also almost done with an album that is probably my most personal piece of work yet.

As far as shows go, I have a ton coming up, some of which I can’t announce yet. But what I can say is I’m super excited for May and June! I’m playing mainstage at the North Warehouse in Portland on May 6th with Walker & Royce, Nala, OMNOM, and more which is going to be incredible. Then I’m playing direct support for Baby Weight at the Monkey Loft on May 13th, which is obviously going to be some of the best and most slay music Seattle has ever heard. Then I got some super secret special stuff happening the weekend of the 19th. And I’ll wrap it all up with the Desert Hearts Memorial Day party at the Monkey Loft again, which those day parties are always a great time.

What are some goals of yours that you have for your future as an artist?:
My current goal is to finish and release my album, which will happen before the end of 2023. Long term, I want my music to take me around the world, I really want to tour in Europe and South America someday. One of my goals is to develop a live set where I sing, and loop instruments and effects fully live, and that’s something I know I will do when I can afford to. Like a full live Red Rocks ZOF show??? That’s the dream. I’d love to throw an event of my own too eventually; I like so many different genres of music that I want to curate an experience that takes people through different genres from live bands to a hard industrial techno rave at the end of the night or something.
IDK, I got ideas lol

ITS WEDNESDAY! And we got a riddle for you….. NO CHEATING!
How can a cowboy leave home on Wednesday, stay away for 4 nights, and then return on Wednesday???
While you're pondering… check out some ZOF Q&A!

What are your favorite events you have performed at and why?:
Most recently, I performed at Exchange LA for Space Yacht’s Tech My House event, and it was incredible. I had never been there before, and to show up to play there was insane. It’s a huge venue that was sold out and packed before my set. The crowd was just going nuts! It was one of the bigger shows I’ve played so far and felt like a milestone. I also got to go B2B with my good friend Casmalia which always makes for a fun set. My most recent track, ‘Right Thing’, is a collab with her on Techne.
Another recent one that comes to mind is a couple of months ago in Seattle, I got to play direct support for Kettama at Substation for Routine, and that was just ridiculous fun! I love playing tech house, but it’s definitely not all that I like to listen to, DJ, or produce, so getting a chance to stretch my techno/breaks/bass legs a bit was just so sick. It was some of the best DJing I’ve done in a while, going in with 3-4 decks almost the whole time.
They also recorded the set! you can listen to it here:
https://on.soundcloud.com/LUhYb

What is your favorite piece of music you have made, and where can people check it out?:
Well, my real favorites are yet to be released, but as far as released music goes, I think my favorite track is Phase, a collab I did with M.F.S. Observatory and the title track on our EP on Popgang Records. I don’t DJ this track much because it’s on the chiller side, but it’s one that I come back and listen to sometimes just to listen. The whole 2 track EP with remixes by TCHiLT and Etari is here:

Happy Monday,
It’s a brand new week & we are STOKED to feature the lovely ZOF!
You know the drill… Q&A!

What are some of your Favorite types of music and artists?:
It’s changing all the time, but lately, I’m loving QRTR and OLAN, Still Woozy, piri, Walker & Royce, Maya Jane Coles, and DMVU. I like everything, though - house, pop, DnB, techno, metal, dubstep, hip-hop/rap/trap, indie, rock, classical, jazz, it’s all good.

When did you start making music/DJing, and what influenced you?:
I’ve always made music in some form. I started playing piano as a little kid, self-taught, and was really good by middle school. I used to play guitar and sing songs I wrote at my high school open mic nights. I started DJing for fun in college because I had friends who did it at parties, and I’d been raving and attending electronic shows since I was 15. I picked it up pretty quickly but just did it casually for years, mainly because I was in school and simply didn’t have time, but I was always accumulating new tracks in my library. I started getting serious about learning to produce about 5 or 6 years ago but had dabbled a little for years before that. But I knew I wanted to be a DJ and producer by like 19 probably. After I went to What The Festival in 2012, I was like yep, this is the coolest s**t ever. I’m gonna do this.

09/06/2023

It’s finally Friday… but we aren’t done with SLAYDE quite yet!

What do you like to do in your free time outside of music?:
I’m an adventurer at heart! I love the outdoors, from hiking up and sliding down mountains to floating down rivers and camping with friends. I also like to adventure in virtual worlds when the weather doesn’t permit being outside… or I take an arrow to the knee.

Who are some artists local to the PNW you see doing big things that you want to shout out to?:
Huge shout out to Hobi and everyone who is part of Objective Collective. I love the amount of curation and effort put into everything they’ve been working on, and it really shows! Another big shoutout to Jody, AKA Keegs, for starting up Wobble Night! Watching her grow and support the bass music scene here in Bellingham has been really cool. I also can’t forget my homies BluntFaded, Lord Kuja, and Ovrthnkr, who have all been hard at work developing their music, visuals, and direction, respectively.

Happy Thurzzzday!
I wonder what's going on in SLAYDE's world.....?

Do you have any upcoming releases or events that you are excited about?:
I have an upcoming release with the label Danktronics! It’ll be another 2-track banger EP of some tunes I’ve been playing out for a while. Those of you who’ve seen me throw down recently might remember them.

What are some goals of yours that you have for your future as an artist?:
Some of my goals I’d like to keep secret ;) … However, I dream of playing Secret Dreams Festival one day and doing shows alongside some of my favorite artists like Keota, Kursa, and Detox Unit. All in all, I’ve got some ambitious plans to innovate how and where I perform music! I’d also love to curate a space for producers to experiment and play things they normally wouldn’t at shows!

Happy hump daaaay!
We have more SLAYDE Q&A for ya… 😁

What are your favorite events you have performed at and why?:
So far, the most extraordinary event I've played at was opening for VCTRE and Bricksquash in Portland for The Collection 003 by Objective Collective. It’s my favorite because I got to play on an HSD sound system (provided by Tiaga) at a venue called Jajapdx which had an entirely separate room full of live painters. The sound was phat, the art was incredible, and the vibe was dope!

What is your favorite piece of music you have made, and where can people check it out?:
So far, all of my favorite music I’ve made is unreleased ;) However, my favorite released tune is 'Bloom' with my friend Pura Scout! It's out on all platforms, including Bandcamp, if you want to support us.

It’s that time againn!
We have another artist highlight for you to check out this week. We are featuring that dude SLAYDE for the next 5 days straight, so pay attention… you might just discover some new fave tunes ;)

What are some of your favorite types of music and artists?
I’d say some of my favorite types of electronic music would be Neuro-Hop, IDM, and DnB. I love diving into different genres outside of EDM, but those 3 are mainly what I always find myself returning to. A few of my favorite artists include Tipper, Koan Sound, Mr. Bill, Resonant Language, and G Jones.

When did you start making music/DJing, and what influenced you?
I never really had much of a musical background. So, when I started producing in 2017, I had so much to learn. I believe the catalyst for getting me started was reading REZZ’s bio on SoundCloud at the time. It said something along the lines of Ableton being like rocket science… but that’s nothing 10 hours a day can’t fix.

Itz thurzzzday!
We got more Q&A from Iplusplus!

Do you have any upcoming releases or events that you are excited about?
Yes! I will be releasing my debut EP at the end of June and will be playing my debut show as i++ at Campout as part of the Human Error// takeover.

What are some goals of yours that you have for your future as an artist?
My number one goal is just to continue creating music. It is my favorite thing to do and where I feel the most at home.

The main goal of the i++ project is to make music purely for me, combining all the techniques I have learned in the 20+ years I have been making music. This project draws from literally everything I have done as a musician, and it has been super satisfying making stuff with zero rules in mind. I really hope people like this stuff, and in a perfect world, it would see some success, but I am just happy to be in a place where I feel confident making stuff that I love and feel so connected to. And I cannot wait to share it!

On the other side, I am still avidly working with my partner Haakon on HEIRZ, and would still consider it my primary project. We hope to play more shows around the country and continue releasing from our huge catalog of music for the rest of the year.

Happy Wednesday, Elated squad!
We got some more Iplusplus Q&A for 🥰

What are your favorite events you have performed at and why?:
With HEIRZ, I played Beyond Wonderland at The Gorge twice, which has been an absolute dream come true. The Gorge is my favorite venue. I remember being at Sasquatch 2013 and deciding that I wanted to play there, and I managed to make it happen! I also love to play the Wild Buffalo in Bellingham any chance I get because that is where I got my start as a DJ and producer, and there is nothing like returning to play for a hometown crowd.

What is your favorite piece of music you have made, and where can people check it out?:
I would say the HEIRZ ‘To The Throne Volume 1’ mix is my favorite thing I have released to date. We released this at the beginning of 2022, and it consists of 22 unreleased (at the time) tracks. A lot of the tracks are released now, too! You can find this on our SoundCloud:

I have yet to release any music for i++, but that will change very soon! I am excited to release music that is a change of pace from the HEIRZ stuff.

It's Mondaaayyy again 🙃
BUT, that's also a good thing because this week, we're featuring something super special!
We have some Q&A for Iplusplus AKA Alex Sutherland 1/2 of HEIRZ (his BRAND NEW project) 🔥

What are some of your Favorite types of music and artists?:
I like a wide range of genres and styles. Within the Electronic sphere, I mainly listen to 140/Deep Dubstep, Wave, UK Garage, Drum & Bass, and anything else within the Experimental Bass/Beat Music realm. I also love Metal, Jazz, Hip-Hop, and Psych-Rock. I have noticed that most of the music I gravitate towards tends to be ethereal, raw, and heavy. I also love unique and original sounds and when you can tell when an artist has poured their soul into practicing their craft.

I have wayy too many favorite artists to list, but I will say my biggest influences for my new i++ project are probably Shlohmo, Brothel., Tsuruda, and Ivy Lab

When did you start making music/DJing, and what influenced you?:
I have been around music my whole life, thanks to my family. I started playing the drums at 8 and played in metal bands throughout high school. I started going to raves before I was 18, and I got really interested in taking DJing and producing seriously when the first wave of Trap EDM came out in 2012/2013. Baauer, RL Grime, Flosstradamus, TNGHT, Mr. Carmack, and Eprom were probably the artists I listened to most when I first started.

The i++ project came about when I started making beats for fun as a way to kind of reset in between HEIRZ projects (where I sometimes spend up to a month mixing down just one song). I noticed these beats started to sound consistent with each other, so I figured I would try to create a new brand of slower, dark, melodic, organic, ethereal, bass-driven beats. I expect my live shows to consist of my newer solo production and a wide variety of darker beat-based music and hip hop.

Happy Friday, AKA one of the better days of the week amiright??
We have one last day of Lucy le Freak Q&A for ya, let's go out with a bang!

What do you like to do in your free time outside of music?:
Lately, I’ve been enjoying exercising, indulging in quality television, and spending lots of quality time with my partner, Novel, and our gorgeous kitty Karma. We live a very peaceful and stress-free life for the most part!

Who are some artists local to the PNW you see doing big things that you want to shout out to?:
There are genuinely too many to name! Without WAVES, I wouldn’t have met my partner, Novel Natura, who is easily my biggest inspiration as an artist and human. I also met some of my best friends in that collective, like Haelix, NoRecall, Quackson, Frida K, and many more. All of them are doing big things in their own right. Last and most definitely not least, I’ve been awestruck by all my Sub 49 family; Graymatter, James Gatz, Jay Peeki, Floston, and Rohry. What started as a simple idea became a brand and family that lives on to this day. I especially thank Graymatter and James Gatz for continuing to run the label as I stepped away and focused on my personal life. There is no limit to what artists from this scene can achieve - and if I named every artist doing big things from Seattle, I would have to spend an entire day answering this question.
