A little background to get you going! My name is Mike Anderson, a legally Ordained Officiant based in Michigan and involved in the wedding industry for close to twenty years! I have been married for seventeen years to my own dearly beloved, Bre and together we have three beautiful children ranging from 2 to 15.
I have been blessed to be a part of hundreds of weddings. From performing as an Officiant, an award winning florist, lead designer for several floral establishments, vow author, setup and tear downs, & I have even stepped in when the DJ didn't show. So you can say I have had many my fair share of experiences working along side the Bride & Groom and no matter what I will always go above and beyond to ensure your big day stays on track! I absolutely love officiating weddings and other ceremonies! There is nothing that can compare to the joy on the faces of a couple as they are joined together in front of friends and family, and I feel honored when asked to be part of a couple’s special day. I enjoy helping couples make their ceremonies special by assisting with writing vows, custom readings, and adding elements such as a Unity Candle, Sand, or Rose Ceremony to the main Ceremony. I love helping to personalize the entire process so that it reflects the couples’ love and commitment to each other. Find an Officiant who aligns with your ceremony style.
If you’re having a religious wedding ceremony, you (obviously) need to find a wedding officiant that aligns with your faith. It’s just as important to find someone who aligns with your wedding style.

If you want to infuse your wedding ceremony with some light-hearted jokes, look for an easy-going officiant with a great sense of humor. If you want to keep things serious, look for a more traditional, old-school officiant.

The point is, every wedding ceremony—and every officiant—has a style. Make sure yours match up.

What is an “unplugged” wedding?

Simply put, an “unplugged” wedding ceremony is one that asks (or requires, depending on how fervently the couple want to enforce) guests to refrain from using their smartphones and tablets to take photos, tweet, post on Facebook, Instagram, etc. for the duration of the ceremony. Maybe even the entire wedding.

When guests are glued to their cameras or phones, they’re not really living in the moment and enjoying the wedding in “real time,” in real life!

A very important question for you and your soon-to-be spouse to ask yourselves is this: will the family and friends in attendance at your wedding also be present at your wedding? Will they be in the moment and mindful of the substance and significance of your wedding day?

There is much value in encouraging wedding guests to get out from behind their viewfinders. Not only have you (likely) hired a wedding photographer to perform this exact task, but most people can agree that part of truly living and appreciating a profound event like the marriage ceremony of a friend or family member is the ability to truly live in the moment.

Encouraging friends and family to actually watch your ceremony instead of photograph or video record it is NOT the same as asking them to refrain from photos during the reception. The couple can often benefit from the candids their guests snap at their tables or on the dance floor. And, really, snapping one or two shots on your iPhone during the ceremony (as long as you stay seated, please!) is totally fine. What we’re really discussing here are guests who park their faces behind their phones for the full duration of the ceremony or end up in the photographer’s way.

Put it in writing!

A big part of a premarital meeting is for your officiant to get to know you and your partner better, so that he or she can create a ceremony that feels personal and unique. While you can certainly accomplish this via Zoom, putting your thoughts and feelings in writing is another way for your officiant to learn more about your relationship and craft a personalized ceremony. Having a bride or groom actually write personal things about themselves and their relationships is a great exercise while mentally and emotionally preparing for their ceremony as well as their marriage. It may even be something they can work on separately and send to me to be worked into their wedding ceremony script—very similar to writing their own vows.
