“For me, working with horses has been about chasing a dream.
Two things happen with a horse: They’re either scared to death and moving too fast or they stop and stall up. Both are bad. We want their feet to free up but they have to bolt before they learn. If a horse is willing to move his feet, you can train him.
Jane and I believe in the freedom to move your feet. We raised our kids to know it’s OK to fail. They grew up without any limits because they’re not afraid to move. It doesn’t bother them if something doesn’t work because you move on, no big deal. Failure is part of life, that’s how you learn.” @grantgolliher

This old video shows a horse that was brought to us for help. The horse was really frightened of having a saddle on its back (as you can see!). @grantgolliher worked to gentle the horse and build its confidence. He did it using natural horsemanship philosophies (also called “horse whispering”) whereby he does not use force or restraint to “break” the horse. Rather, Grant works to build confidence and a relationship of trust between horse & rider using restraint free training. The horse can choose to face its fears, but is never forced to do anything and is never trapped or forced into a corner.
This summer we are excited to begin working to help more horses, and to find more ways to share the horses’ stories and progress. For those of you who have visited the ranch, you’ve been able to see our work firsthand. But to those of you who are unable to visit - we plan to video a lot of the work this summer and to share the videos on social media (something we didn’t have a proper media team in place to do historically).

We named this beautiful horse Jazzy. We purchased her from the killpen earlier this summer thanks to your generosity (we used the proceeds from the sales of Diamond Cross apparel that y’all made on our website).
Grant, @grantgolliher began has been working to make Jazzy into a great ranch horse. We think she’s about 7 years old, and when we got her she bucked hard when saddled (which may be why the old owners sent her to the kill pen - though we don’t know for sure).
Grant is incredible with horses, it’s one of his life’s passions. And he especially enjoys helping troubled horses that others have given up on.
This video was all taken during about an hour of Grant working with Jazzy. She made a lot of progress, and Grant thinks she has the potential to be a terrific horse.
You can see she has a very kind eye.
