FOR THOSE LIVING IN SUNBURY, THE BULLA BY PASS AND THE OUTER METROPOLITAN RING ROAD PREVIOUSLY SET FOR 2032 IN EVERY MELWAYS FOR LAST 20 YEARS IS NOT HAPPENING.

A passenger has provided us with a copy of a response to her email:

I refer to your email to the Hon Gabrielle Williams MP, Minister for Transport Infrastructure, of 30 June 2025 about the delivery timing for the Outer Metropolitan Ring Road/E6 transport
corridor. Your email has been referred to the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP)for response.

The Outer Metropolitan Ring Transport Corridor (OMR) which includes the E6 corridor, is a100 km transport reservation that links the Princes Freeway, Werribee to the M80 Ring Road
in Thomastown.
The OMR and E6 Transport Corridor was reserved via a Public Acquisition Overlay in 2010 and consists of a multi-modal transport corridor between the Princes Freeway and Hume
Freeway and freeway corridor (E6) from Beveridge to the M80 at Thomastown. The OMR will cater for up to 10 freeway lanes and four rail tracks.

Whilst there is currently no state or federal funding commitment to deliver the OMR/E6 Corridor, a preliminary business case for the OMR was completed by the Department of
Transport and Planning in early 2021 which further refined design and progressed planning the corridor.

Given the size and complexity of the OMR project, it is expected to be delivered in multiple stages over a 30–50-year period to support the ongoing growth and development of Melbourne’s north and west.
Thank you for raising this matter.
Yours sincerely
Alex Green
Executive Director, Greater Metro.

Now further to this, Melissa Horne, MP, has suggested we look at:
bigbuild.vic.gov.au/projects/mrpv/bulla-bypass but gives no date.
So while SRL is going ahead, Melbourne's west infrastructure is going nowhere fast so look forward to traffic delays on SUNBURY RD BULLA for years to come.

We’ve undertaken planning for a potential future new road link between Bulla-Diggers Rest Road and Somerton Road in Bulla.

Melbourne’s new city bypass ready to open next month
New direct link to transform travel between western suburbs, city and south east

The West Gate Tunnel Project’s Wurundjeri Way extension will open to traffic on Monday 27 October providing another way for people from the west to directly link into the Docklands, the CBD and travel onto the south east suburbs.

The new road connects Dynon Road in West Melbourne to Wurundjeri Way in Docklands.

Inner Melbourne’s newest road is set to open early so motorists can start getting the benefits of the West Gate Tunnel Project before the new road network opens at the end of the year.

This will deliver Melbourne its first CBD bypass in 25 years to help start taking thousands of vehicles off some of the city’s busiest thoroughfares, including Spencer and King Streets.

The Wurundjeri Way extension will connect with Dynon Road and the twin West Gate Tunnels when they open creating a city bypass that reduces congestion and makes it easier to get to and from the city.

Cars won't pay a toll on the Wurundjeri Way extension when travelling between Dynon Road and Wurundjeri Way.

Extending and widening Wurundjeri Way
Since construction began, crews have built a new bridge over Dudley Street and a 1.5 kilometre, four lane connection to Dynon Road, which will provide a city bypass and a more direct link from the inner west to Docklands, the CBD and onto the south east suburbs.

In addition, Wurundjeri Way has been widened to three lanes in each direction alongside Southern Cross station through to Flinders Street to increase capacity.

Using the new Wurundjeri Way extension from 27 October
Heading to the footy and the city
When the extension opens from 27 October, drivers will now have a new option to travel – avoiding busy streets such as King and Spencer Streets.

On Dynon Road (heading towards the city), use the left slip lane to get to the new Wurundjeri Way extension.
Continue southbound and merge onto Wurundjeri Way, near Marvel Stadium to get to Docklands and travel onto the south east suburbs.
Heading from Wurundjeri Way to Dynon Road
On Wurundjeri Way, head northbound towards Dudley Street.
Enter the right slip lane onto the new Wurundjeri Way extension.
Exit on Dynon Road.
Explore your future journeys using the new Wurundjeri Way extension
When the new connections from Dynon Road and Wurundjeri Way to the West Gate Tunnel open later this year, you can travel seamlessly between Geelong, Ballarat and the west to the city, the north and West Melbourne. Serving as a city bypass, the new extension will remove through traffic from the CBD including Spencer and King Street.
