After a long day at work, away from my charts & graphs the first thing I wanted to see was the river forecast. It certainly changed.
We're facing a rain event, which means flooding. While the change in the forecast is a bit dramatic it remains out of the major flooding range the peak is short lived. What is important however, will be what is projected further in the days to come. Shall we see a far slower rise as water upstream above us, comes to get out of the banks.

I love Kayaking & I'm frequently on Kayaking-topic pages.
But I see so many posts of Kayaks with cracks & holes in them with questions of what to do? How to fix? Worse, I see so many comments offering potentially worthless advice.
Bottom Line: Rotomolded Kayaks ARE repairable simply & efficiently using the exact same material they are made of. It only takes a Plastic Welder, a Heat Gun, sand paper, and DIY!
My two Pungo 140's are still are on the water (not UNDER it), despite several years of keel scrapes on boat ramps, because I got familiar with using a plastic welder iron & a heat gun. The best thing, BOTH tools PAY for themselves! Once you learn how to repair a hole or crack, count on getting asked to repair friends & total strangers kayaks too. Think of the Cases of Beer, free dinners, and more that'll come your way just by sealing up a crack in a hull or a worn, leaking spot on a keel.
Don't make the mistake of wasting money on Keel Tape, Tubes of RTV, or the mess of superglue. Learn to use a Plastic Welder! With that simple skillful talent, women will find you handsome & men will find you... well... men will find your number to call, and ask if you can do them a great big favour.
And ultimately, you'll forever look upon a plastic bucket not as something that just holds water, but rather as a material source, that matches the color of your Kayak.
WHO KNOWS? Perhaps this one tool can even get you started on a new exciting career...

Getting familiar with my Hammock Stand & Awning. Tiring work!

05/12/2022

I’ve been lusting after one of these car hitch hammock mounts for a long time. Well, I finally bit the bullet & shelled out the $$$ to get the Adventure Hammock System’s Bare Bones version, and I’m telling you I am LOVING IT!
However, I did get a jolt when, right out of the box, I couldn’t hang my Butt off the ground. My hammock hung too low.
I found I had not accounted for the fact that all the vehicles in the product advertising were big 4WD trucks or jacked up off road vehicles, not a junior SUV like my ‘04 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My hitch receiver is a few inches lower than those Testosterone heavy machines, making the hammock mount sit too close to the ground.
But lesson learned, and a short trip to Harbor Freight resolved the problem, leaving me hanging high enough to be happy. There’s a lesson to be learned in the video…

Getting good use of my new 360 camera, here’s some more video from last Saturday’s paddle through downtown Conway SC on the Waccamaw.

21/08/2022

Saturday was a special day.
One of the few Saturdays this summer, where the stars aligned making a day free of yard projects, house chores & work demands that could be set aside. It also just happened to be exceptionally nice, mild & sunny weather too.
This all means I could get the kayak out on the water, something I haven’t been able to do since early June.
Marshal & Merry had set up a social paddle for early Saturday morning that set out on the Waccamaw just upstream of me, so I jumped at the chance to join in the fun. It’d be a paddle upstream a few miles above Conway, with a return downtown to finish off at my fave food place, Bonfire, with the best riverfront BBQ around.
AND this also was my first chance to use for real my new action camera, the Insta360 OneRS. With a decent turnout of paddlers and plenty of river to paddle, I’m sure I’d get plenty of things to put into a video to commerate the event.
It’s also my first attempt at editing a video without using my MacBook too, I would make it totally using the Insta360 app on my IPhone.
So get the popcorn, & check out these feats of video graphic creativity, all inspired by a great day, a great kayak paddle, on a great Blackwater River.
