Answering this feels like trying to catch smoke some days... but I think I've found a term that describes it perfectly in two words:

"Cinematic Documentary" Style.

My gameplan when filming a wedding is to stay hidden enough to not be noticed,

but be noticed enough so that everyone knows me and feels comfortable around me.

Most couples generally like their videographer to be discreet (Many Registrars and Vicars also sort of "insist" upon it) and I most definitely am.

That said, being a weird guy hiding in the corner with a camera isn't a good look, especially if you or any of your guests aren't all too confident on camera.

So it's important to smile and talk to people so they know you're on their team.

I'm also not big into staged shots or posed things...

If you guys are into it and enjoy it it's great fun,

but I've watched my fair share of photographers desperately try to force couples into doing stuff they don't want to do - and this will never be me.

I document what occurs, I don't try to take over.

And apparently it works.

Each year I accept up to 30 weddings.

We keep it that way because the actual wedding day is such a small part of what we do.

We don't just film for a day and then cobble together a quick highlight video, like something you'd get offered after going on a rollercoaster at Thorpe Park.

I spend many days & nights putting together your memories in a film worthy of the title "Family Heirloom".

But it's NOT just the work AFTER the wedding either.

From whatever time you decide to choose me to film your wedding, right up to the wedding day, I want to be a close personal ally in your wedding planning journey.

I want the couples I film for to know that if they have any questions, concerns (or even just want opinions on stuff), they have a valuable ally in their contact-list that they can go to.

In conclusion

despite there being 365 days of the year,

were I to attempt to film 365 weddings a year,

I would surely perish in a tragic manner.

It seems unbelievable that you'd forget your wedding day...

But you WILL.

Not next week, or next month... but think of 20 years time.

Of course you won't forget it generally speaking...

but I bet you have some memory from 5 years ago that you totally forgot about until a particular song came on, or someone mentioned it.

Then add the fact you're just trying not to mess up the aisle walk.

THEN add the fact you can't be everywhere at once, and so there will undoubtedly be things you missed that you didn't even KNOW happened.

Relax. We have it on video.

Your Wedding Videographer, Chris.

Just wanted to reintroduce you to my face and get a wee bit VULNERABLE this evening...

I've enjoyed a life of chaos and adrenaline, I've freeclimbed, scuba-dived and most recently become a newly qualified skydiver.

Absolutely nothing was more scary than starting my own wedding business.

The first piece of information you get bombarded with when starting is:

"There's thousands of videographers already"
"Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon"
"The mArKeT iS Too SAtuRaTed"

Yet somehow, whilst all of this is actually pretty true... I've managed to carve out my own little space in this industry - and it's ENTIRELY thanks to YOU.

When you've been surfing the web collecting 3 or 4 options, or bombarded with pages of results for "Wedding Videographer Near Me", and yet you decide to pick me to film your wedding - it is a true blessing.

A lot of wedding videographers I've spoke to do this as a side hustle - its SO highly competitive that they stick to just booking up the easy saturdays, and go to their main job in the week.

I do not.

If this little dream doesn't work out, I will quite literally be homeless.

Yet (let me just check...) I'm still not Homeless!

And not only that, I get to live on my own terms. So thank you, all past, present and future couples.

I will put every ounce of gratitude into making your film the treasured family heirloom it deserves to be.

I've been a wedding videographer for 5 years.

I started off being an assistant for other established shooters, and in the REALLY early days I'm pretty sure they only gave me a chance because they needed my camera.

From there I did a lot of "Associate" work - shooting on behalf of established companies.

I shot around 100 weddings on behalf of others, having only shot 10 or so of my own... so 2 years ago I decided to try and reverse that - shoot entirely my own weddings, and only "associate shoot" for close personal friends, or fellow comrades of the wedding industry that found themselves in deep trouble.

Absolutely no regrets so far, being a friend you can call on for your entire wedding planning journey has been more fun than I ever imagined, and I plan on being a wedding videographer for many, many years to come.

Throwback to the Trailer for Michelle & Chris!

These guys got married on the day with literally the craziest sunset I've ever seen - everything on the ground started glowing red - kinda like it does during an eclipse.

I do not know what this means from any spiritual perspective, but these guys are for sure living happily ever after!

How could I have possibly known - to film this particular bridesmaid, at this particular moment...

Was it set up?

Was it just luck?

Neither.

We've been making wedding films a long time. I don't ask anybody to stage things - and I get shots like this on every single wedding without fail.

It surprised me as well... but after a while of filming bridal prep - I genuinely get this spidey-sense that someone is about to react beautifully.

There's the obvious ones like the first look - but this shot wasn't that... it was random. But beautiful.
