Good morning! A fine, FINE week coming up! Kevin is nearing completion of two more small tables for the dining room, and Chef Bee has the full menu on tap. Today, let’s discuss pad see ew, shrimp cakes, and Chef Bee’s chicken wings. Pad see ew is a savory fried noodle dish with wide noodles, egg, broccoli, and your choice of protein. It is a thoroughly nutritious and delicious comfort food for lunch. Bee’s shrimp cakes are crispy on the outside, and tender shrimps on the inside. Set off by the sweet/sour chili sauce, they are a perfect lite lunch. Chef Bee’s chicken wings start off with large whole wings, and get hand battered with her own recipe. Thai street food is all about having a snack “on the go”. That is why we put many street snacks on skewers. Moo ping (grilled pork) and chicken satay are flavorful, marinated choices, while Thai fried chicken and meatballs are about the most kid-friendly option one could imagine. Besides, it’s just fun to eat things off of sticks. (Toasted marshmallows? Popsicles?). Good morning! Well, with another nice day on tap, it is time for an update on the Thai herbs and vegetables we have been nursing through this winter in the greenhouse. We are rooting plenty of Thai basil cuttings, which we will grow in pots all around the new restaurant. The Thai chilis are coming out of dormancy, and sending out new growth. Same with the kaffir lime trees, which seem to have done fine this winter. The tiny Thai eggplants were pruned back extensively in the fall, but seem to be growing again now. Mango and jackfruit trees are hanging in there, but have not woken up yet this spring. Throughout the winter, we were able to keep the greenhouse at least 40 degrees overnight. Some days with cold and no sun, 40 was the best we could do in the daytime as well. Right now though, the greenhouse quickly warms to 80-90 degrees in the daytime, and the plants are loving it. :-)

Today’s recipe highlight is Ka Na Moo Krob. This is a unique stir fry with crispy pork belly (AKA bacon), Chinese broccoli, and savory stir fry sauce. It is served with jasmine rice. We like it topped with a fried egg, but that is optional.
