The First Turntable to Incorporate DJ Functions

The first Hi-Fi turntable designed in consideration of use by disco and club DJs. Technics’ staff visited clubs in Chicago and DJs’ opinions were collected to make necessary modifications: Quartz Lock system achieving more accurate rotation control, a fader controller to simplify pitch adjustment. The SL-1200MK2 successfully responded to DJs’ needs. It was the bona fide model that changed the turntable from a record player to a “musical instrument.”

Respect and condolences to all family, friends and fans of Paul Johnson & Kelli Hand. Two well-liked and much respected pioneers of our industry. Like all genres of music, when it comes to House and Techno we are all beneficiaries and trustees of who and what has come before us, and it’s up to all of us to respect the music and give due props to the originators.
