Hi ya’ll!! I’m popping back on from the abyss to point you all in the direction of my new shop ➡️.handmade 🌷🌈
Thank you so much to all of you who’ve held on though the past year’s radio silence. There are exciting things ahead!
As it has for so many people, this past year has been an opportunity for reimagining and growth. With Aviv, I’ll still be making the show-stopping “Bien Buena” dance costumes you love, but am giving myself the chance to broaden my platform to be able to expand the range of what I offer to include apparel and accessories, to formalize an online shop, and to make room for even more growth in the future!

The name “Aviv” - pronounced “ah-veev” - is the Hebrew word for spring (and happens to also be “viva” backwards 😉). And I’ve chosen it both as a reflection of my own identity and because of the connotations of rebirth and transformation - my goal is to create a line that celebrates the vibrancy of our individuality, with respect and integrity at the forefront.

At .handmade I take commissions for costumes, clothes, and accessories that are completely custom, made-to-measure, gender and size inclusive, and can include disability specifications. Every ready-to-wear piece is also one of a kind, handmade, and often made with repurposed/sustainable materials. As always, everything is bright, bold, and expressive 🌈

BLACK LIVES MATTER. Period.

We accidentally fell off without warning back at the start of COVID-19 isolation in the US, and it’s been good to take an overdue vacation, but I don’t want there to be any confusion - we stand 100% behind the courageous protesters taking to the streets to demand justice and an end to state-sanctioned murder and the systems that support it. We urge all of our friends and followers (but particularly our white ones) to reject complacency, to show up in every way we can in solidarity with our black siblings, and to make this a true turning point in the bloody, brutal history of this country.

Day 14:
🦋Current Project 🦋
In the Latin dance world, it’s customary not to reveal new costumes until the debut performance, so I can’t show you the biggest project currently on my table quite yet. Instead, here’s something to look forward to! Hand-dyed, flowing loungewear 🤤
Unfortunately, the virus is causing us quite the financial scare - all major dance events have been cancelled for the next few months, and no congresses means no vending and no debuts. We’re trying to face the uncertainty in two ways: 1. We’ll be shifting our projects to include more designs like the sketch here, as well as more home goods like quilts and throw pillows to make life at home extra comfortable. 2. We’re taking new performance wear commissions several months in advance. If you have Fall or Winter 2020 debut in mind, consider reaching out NOW to get started! There’s likely to be a mad rush when all of the postponed events come back around, so booking now is the perfect way to secure your spot and help us keep the lights on.

Day 7: 🌿 you 🌺
I feel weird just typing up a list of facts about me (I’m not sure that’s really the best way to get to know a person anyway) so here’s a photo of me as me, taken after a recent performance with dance company.
While I’ve been sewing and designing for a long time, I came to when I fell HARD in love with dancing myself. It’s a huge plus of hiring us to create your dance costumes; everything is .

This photo is also a great example of my current aesthetic - both personal and design: bold, colorful, all about prints, and different from everything else out there.

It’s day 5! The prompt is “close up” 👀, so here’s a shot of the gorgeous embellishments I added to this up-cycled gown for earlier this year 🦚
Louisa came by this dress in a magical way just when she needed it, but it was the wrong size and shape and generally a little lack luster (swipe to the last 2 pictures for *before*). I had so much fun transforming it into a striking piece that fit like a glove. It really is all in the details!

As a side note, reinventing thrifted or second-hand pieces is one of my all-time favorite ways to work (and is so much better for our planet), so DM me to talk ideas and pricing if you have a project like this just waiting for the right hands ✨

Prompt #4 of ... Branding!
I’m actually currently in the process of creating cohesive branding for and hope to have a logo, business cards, sewn in labels, and hand-printed t-shirts 😏 by the end of April. In the meantime, here’s the cheeky mug my partner encouraged me to get when I ordered my first round of business cards 🥭 It makes me smile daily.
As a brand, is the intersection of three fundamental things: your unique self and individual expression, true artistry and creative vision, and a positive and affirming client experience. It’s our experience that it’s often hard to find all three, particularly in the performance wear world, so that’s exactly what we’re here to create.

A day late but here we are!! Excited to participate in this year’s hosted by . The first prompt is *story*, so here’s the start of ours:
Hi everyone! My name is Aliyah and I am the designer and owner behind ✨ I am infatuated with textiles and fiber arts, and have been sewing for 18 years.
I am passionate about creating bespoke clothing, quilts and home goods, and, of course, COSTUMES! I specialize in dance and performance wear, but am on board for any project that involves hands-on work and a unique vision.

We’ve been sitting on the edge of our seats waiting to promote this piece with the HD video of their Reno debut, but just can’t contain ourselves any longer!!!
One of our absolute favorites to date: a very purple reign 😉 for the forever fierce Pro Am team.
