I've come across some advice circulating on business websites:
"Making money through photography has never been easier. All you need is your phone [camera], a photo editing app like Canva and you’re ready to start making money on the side."
Sharing a photo this morning that wasn’t taken on a phone or edited in Canva!
To be honest, I don’t think many photographers are promoting themselves this way. However, there are a worrying number of people launching photography side hustles without the proper equipment, backup gear, or the essential insurance—and that’s before we even talk about the experience required.
It’s all too easy (and cheap) to start a side hustle, but doing so without the right knowledge and resources undermines the industry and the many experienced professionals—like my industry friends and team—who have spent years honing our craft and capturing hundreds of weddings.
