Some aspects of wedding planning are notoriously harder than others, and while seating charts often get a bad reputation, it doesn't have to be a hard task.

Here are some tips to make planning your seating charts easy:

Start with your table shape
Shape plays an important role in how many guests will sit at each table. Once your list is finalized, figure out how many people can sit at each table.

Map it out
It makes it easier when you can visually see your seating chart. Whether you use a dry erase board so that you can move people around or an online seating chart tool, make sure you're getting a view of the entire reception floor.

Decide on your table first
It is your big day after all! Are you going to sit alone at a sweetheart table? Will you have your bridesmaids and groomsmen sitting with you? Figure this out first before moving on to other tables.

Seat family first
Once you've nailed down the head table, move on to family. Your parents should be somewhere close to you. Unlike at the ceremony where your parents' sit across the aisle from each other, during the reception you can mix things up.

Ask for help
Odds are you've invited some of your parents' friends who you may not know that well. Ask your parents for help determining who should be seating with whom.

You may think you're playing matchmaker by putting all the single people at one table, but it can actually make things awkward. Intersperse single people among couples based on interests.

Here are a few ideas about how to incorporate family heirlooms into your big day:

Old photos
Photos are a great way to make things feel personal, and also act as great conversation starters. Using great-grandparents', grandparents' and parents' wedding photos as a fun whos-who reception game can add an element of fun.

Heirloom blankets and quilts
Display your heirloom quilts or blankets in a bin around the dance floor for guests who aren't dancing and are looking for a way to stay warm. Then, add a sign about being "wrapped in love" to bring it all together.
