He lives? He lives! Did my first magic show since Covid started back in early 2020. The birthday party was Encanto themed(which is a great movie if you haven't seen it yet) and I was asked to cosplay as Bruno while I performed, but we don't talk about Bruno so...

It was a blast and the kiddos had a wonderful time! Guess that means I'm open for business again!

So definitely hasn't been a lot of ability to post about either cosplay or magic lately with most events still canceled. Figured now is the optimal time to start working on(and by working on I mean having commissioned because I have no idea how to make armor myself) a new cosplay. No spoilers on exactly who just yet, but...

Haven't had much chance to perform magic since Covid started, but here's a little tidbit of fun from a couple days ago!

Broken horn Part 2: so after using wood putty to create the bell and ring on my newly split horn, I used watered down paint to stain the horn itself the right white color(though getting it all perfectly white proved troublesome so there are still some black streaks in the white).

I mixed yellows and browns and a tiny bit of black until I got the dull gold color for the bell and painted the putty that color after smoothing it down.

After that I used a black sharpie to trace out the designs on the bell and ring before painting over those marks with a metallic silver.

After this was done I decided the design didn't have enough depth so I used caulking to try and give the designs more punch which proved highly difficult to do for such intricate work. Smoothing the caulking out also proved impossible so I settled on a slightly messier look though I think for a broken horn it still came out okay. Once it dried I went for one last shot of paint on the caulking.

New Horn, part 1:

So this would've been part of the debut of Amon Hen Boromir at ECCC had it occurred, but one of the other upgrades to the Boromir costume was a split horn of Gondor. I have one of the replicas I use for the normal cosplay(as seen in the last picture) but I wanted to go for the full effect at the end of Fellowship when he's been struck by arrows and his horn has been split.

I started with a cow horn that I cut in two using a Dremel and diamond disc, though I did discover I needed larger discs by the end to get through it where it was thicker. Once it was cut in two pieces down the middle, I started using wood putty to act as the molded Bell on the end of the horn and the ring around the middle.

Decided to adjust Boromir this ECCC to the version seen at Amon Hen where he is struck by arrows right before death. Making some arrows out of dowel rods and fletching, then spray painting them before gluing magnets to the inside of the tunic and the ends of the rods. Black and red cloth to cover the magnets and paint to show blood streaks- it should be a fun rendition!

Working on a couple of upgrades for Boromir for this year's ECCC. First thing was a newly styled wig. The wig had been a huge improvement over the original (which ended up being my Mad Eye Moody wig) but it still needed work. After a trip to a local salon it looks much closer to the film. A little water and spritzing at the edges the day of and it should do the job very well.

This was probably my favorite shot of the night, but our lightsaber batteries had died by this point. Did a little color correction and it looks a little closer now!

Had the chance to perform magic for some young Star Wars fans at a birthday party this last week! Magic should bring joy, and there's nothing more satisfying than sharing that sense of magic with young ones.

Did somebody say cosplay upgrades? Also had the chance today to upgrade the clasps on my Boromir tunic with the help of to screen-accurate ones(that hopefully won't come undone the moment I adjust myself!) Will be wearing these at ECCC this year!
