Get excited, folks!!! 🍂 Fall wedding season is here!

Bring on the hot toddies, cozy textures, and
warm scents, we`re ready. There's nothing like
a summer romance, sure, but a snuggle by the
fire on a cool night? Swoon. This season brings
all the traditional things that we can't get
enough of (yes, we do love pumpkin), but also
something new in the form of a new take or
wedding colors. The combination? Rust an
mustard with minty-sage accents.

The job of an event planner is not unlike a maid of honor or a best man at a wedding. We have to be prepared to step in and save the day with MacGyver-like cleverness. When we have tools on hand to be responsive and helpful, not only do we solve an immediate problem or oversight, we make an impression on the client as a forward-thinking, customer-focused professional.

In my 17 years as event planning, I’ve developed a trusty tool box that’s filled with my tools of the trade. These supplies are proven to relieve stress:

Scissors
Black Sharpies
White board markers
Rubber bands
USB cords
Tape of many types (duct, electrical, packaging, 2-sided)
Zip-ties
Adhesive wall hooks
Tape measure
Convertible screwdriver (Phillips and flat)
Hammer
Electrical plug adaptor
Power strip and cord
Band-Aids or basic first aid kit
Matches or a lighter
Staple remover
Small sewing kit
Buffalo Clips (large paper clips)

Remember, take time to customize your tools for each event based on similar events and experiences you’ve had. A swanky indoor cocktail party will have the potential for different issues to pop up than an autumn river cruise.

One of your biggest sources of clients will be the venue coordinators and vendors in your local event industry.

Therefore, those relationships need to be nurtured above anyone! And I am not talking about networking, I am talking about building a give and take relationship for the long run.

Because investing in those relationships will result in very high ROI. So send out the thank you cards, schedule annual lunches with them all! And then watch as you build a beautiful community that benefits your business and theirs.

Ok so we don't sell cars, we
sell parties, BUT, follow me on this one..

When you realize that sales is just teaching", and that it is not "slimy" or wrong", then all the anxiety that comes with it melts away. Here are 3 couple of tips:

1. A good teacher listens first. Listen to what the client wants so that you know
what they need to be taught
2. Have visual examples ready (and branded) so that you can help the client understand your teaching points. Things like a portfolio of events in different budget categories, past planning timelines, etc..
3. Educating yourself about events and your local event industry will help you be great at sales (teaching)!
