It is with much sadness that I share the news of the passing of guitarist Trevor Williams RIP. Trevor, best known for his part in the supergroup Judas Jump, died peacefully at home a few weeks ago. Judas Jump was formed in 1969 by Alan Jones of Amen Corner. It was a short lived, but well known because of the band members who had success before and after Judas Jump.
I was notified of Trevor's death by one of his bandmates from the group The Lonely Ones, one of Trevor's first bands before joining Judas Jump.
I've spoken to a few of his fellow band mates who all agreed he was an amazing guitarist and song writer in his own right. I remember Trevor fondly as the good looking one in the band. The ladies really loved him. He was cheeky, funny and charming. I knew him when I was just 15 years and The Lonely Ones got signed to Galaxy Entertainments that I worked with. I went out with the drummer Keith Bailey and hung out with the band a lot until they went to Europe in 1967 for a tour of Switzerland and then got stranded when their van broke down. As a result they remained in Europe for a few years appearing in many clubs including one in Rome called the Titan Club where Trevor was rushed to hospital after receiving an electric shock whilst playing. He was detained for one night, but was a scary moment for the band. It was during their time in Europe they hooked up with film writer David Llywelyn and director and composer George Moorse. The Lonely Ones changed their name to The Joint and recorded the sound track to the movie "What's Happening" directed by Guido Franko. The Joint also played the soundtrack to the Llywelyn/Moorse movie "Der Griller" (The Griller) The Joint and its band members split up and returned to the UK in 1969. This is when Trevor was asked to join the band Judas Jump. I remember getting a phone call from him out of the blue very excited about this project. We chatted and laughed for a while to catch up, but that was the last time I heard from him until a few years ago when I re-united with some of his other band members from the Lonely Ones. I met up with drummer Keith Bailey and lead singer Andy Andrews in June earlier this year, but never got a chance to re-unite with Trevor.
It was Andy who told me about Trevor's passing. He'd had a phone call from their keyboard player Rick Davis who now lives in the US and went on to be part of Supertramp. I wrote to Keith who was so sad that he didn't get a chance to reconnect with Trevor.
Tapes of the recordings The Joint did around 1968 were found in recent years and Keith is in the process of remastering them. These recordings will be released at some point in the future and will be a fine tribute to the wonderful Trevor who will definitely be missed by those who knew and loved him.
