When we go through fires in our life, God brings people to us to help. He also teaches us ways to make it through the fire. This has occurred many times in my journey. There were so many "angels" who stepped up when I...

Birthday Fundraiser:
Project Food is in desperate need of gas cards. Sometimes, we do up to 3 food rescues per day in Washington, DC and Northern VA. At this time of high gas prices, we need your help more than ever. Would you consider donating a gas card, or making a cash donation to help deliver needed food to the homeless, seniors/disabled, working poor in our area? We also have other key expenditures including storage and food purchases as well. www.projectfooddmv.org

Someone in your life is hurting right now. They will probably say they are "fine". Sometimes that means Freaked out, Insecure, Neurotic and Emotional. Tell your family and friends that you love them, be kind, say an encouraging word, send a positive text, call them, meet with them, "break bread" with them and give them a tight hug. Often those who seem to have it all together are just putting on a good poker face and they are really dying inside. If you are going through a tough time, please message me. I've been there and I care.

Overnight Pet Sitting Services (No. VA, DC, Baltimore & Suburban MD)

Dog sitting, cat sitting and house sitting—I’ll keep an eye on your house while you are gone

I’m an energetic and hard-working professional with a flexible schedule. And, I have experience caring for cats and dogs (small and medium). Overnight care, in your home, allows for a safe and stress-free environment for your pets. Kennels, which have many dogs on-site, can be overwhelming and unfamiliar to your pet. And, they don’t allow for one-on–one interaction. My primary concern is maintaining their safety and well-being. I'll feed, dispense medication and walk your pets at scheduled times. And, I'll interact with you about any concerns regarding your pets. I can even come early to have your pet get used to me while still in your company. I generate repeat business based on quality customer care.

Kudos
"I really appreciated Dave watching my Maltese and Beagle. He is a great pet sitter/walker. Dave is very responsible and took the time to come and meet me before taking care of my two dogs. He also addressed the special needs of my pets, including medicine and a unique schedule.
Andrea—Eldersburg, MD

“Trustworthy, responsive, and utterly reliable, Dave was also very flexible in helping us deal with deliveries when we were away. I have no hesitation in recommending his services. Thanks, Dave!” Anthony—Arlington, VA

Dave is a very kind and responsible person. He was great with our dog and cat. Dave is incredibly trustworthy. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a pet sitter.
Wanda—New Market, VA

Dave is the only pet-sitter who actively took an interest in the information I provided regarding my home and the care of my pets. He‘s an ideal cat sitter. He stayed in our home, for two weeks, while he watched our cats Loki and Thor. When he provided regular updates about how our cats were doing and their latest crazy antics, it was obvious that he sincerely enjoys their company, which enabled us to enjoy our time away. Lori—Takoma Park, MD
Dave did an amazing job for us. He was reliable, trustworthy and proactive. I would definitely use him again!
Rob & Tammi Wescoat—Strusburg, VA

I talk a lot. And, sometimes I don’t listen. Often when others are going through something difficult, we think we have to say something. Unfortunately, although well-intentioned, it is often trite and unhelpful.

Addiction is NOT the leading cause of homelessness. Actually, the top 4 are: lack of affordable housing, unemployment, poverty and mental illness.

Project Food regularly reaches out to those in homeless tents and shelters throughout Washington, DC. We not only give them a meal or snacks, but also a smile and encouragement. If you would like to help or donate, please contact us at www.projectfooddmv.org.

No matter what the search engine tells you, addiction is absolutely NOT the leading cause of homelessness. The lack of affordable housing is.

Did you know that over 50% of those in homeless shelters are actively working?

I'm thankful that Project Food has "adopted" 4 shelters, especially a women's shelter near the DC Convention Center. They are so kind and appreciative when we bring entrees, sandwiches, salads, desserts, snacks and drinks.

If you would like to help us, please visit www.projectfooddmv.org for more info.

The term "working homeless" has existed for quite some time. It's a known fact that many unhoused people are employed. But how many?

In 1987, a 74-year old rickshaw puller by the name of Bai Fangli came back to his hometown planning to retire from his backbreaking job. There, he saw children working in the fields, because they were too poor to afford school fees.

Bai returned to Tianjin and went back to work as a rickshaw puller, taking a modest accommodation next to the railway station. He waited for clients 24 hours a day, ate simple food and wore discarded second-hand clothes he found. He gave all of his hard-earned earnings to support children who could not afford education.

In 2001, he drove his rickshaw to Tianjin YaoHua Middle School, to deliver his last installment of money. Nearly 90 years old, he told the students that he couldn't work any more. All of the students and teachers were moved to tears.

In total, Bai had donated a total of 350,000 yuan to help more than 300 poor students continue with their studies. In 2005, Bai passed away leaving behind an inspiring legacy.

If a rickshaw-puller who wore used clothes and had no education can support 300 children to go to school, imagine what you and I can do with the resources we have to bring about positive change in our world!
