Like the pillars of this historic memorial, Savannah and Jake have held one another through joy and celebration, through grief and uncertainty.

They weather every storm together – and are stronger, closer, and wiser for it.

Savannah and Jake had a perfect tiny wedding. It was intimate, intentional, and absolutely magical.

Not once did they lose sight of their values or their love for one another.

And they walked into their marriage knowing it’s their greatest adventure yet.

The girls who made me a mama & the wisely-chosen, perfect-for-me husband who helps me hold our family as one.

Walking into Mother’s Day weekend in awe of this beautiful, messy, connected, and charming little life we’ve created.

If you’ve lost your mother in any sense, never got to know her, or really dread her, I know this weekend can sting like salt in an unhealed wound. Or maybe you’re waiting for your own baby to make you a mama…I also walk with you and am in awe of your bravery and resilience.

My own mom got sober when I was 21. I completely lost the childhood I wanted and the mother I needed. While she’s almost 20 years into her recovery (and what a gift), she missed the ride. I solidly hated Mother’s Day for decades. It felt like a personal affront.

So, when I say I’m in awe, I truly mean it.

Before Cale and I got married a friend of Cale’s told him that arguably the six most important words in marriage are, “What can I do for you?”

I was frantically packing for my flight to DC after a morning of meetings when Cale popped home from work (yes, he goes into an office) and me asked the six most important words.

“I’m starving. I haven’t eaten yet today,” I told him.

A few minute later he reappeared and handed me a hot BEC from our local variety shop (can you get more New England?), gave me a big hug, and hyped me up for my first ceremony of 2024.

This is your sign to choose your partner wisely. I’m so glad I did — even if things aren’t “perfect” and we’re in a wild (and wonderful) season of life.

A two term presidency ago, we arrived my then-fiancés hometown, a place I’d visited twice before but never imagined living, after an epic six-month cross-country roadtrip.

I was hopeful for the life we’d build here and heartbroken for the one we’d left behind in Seattle.

Feels like yesterday and a lifetime ago…

P.s. If given the chance to camp up and down the coast of California, aimlessly explore the SW, post-up in Aspen and ski circles in the west: DO IT! Bonus if you have a Golden Retriever puppy and get engaged at sunrise in Sedona 🤍🤍

She said, “What if I just quit when it got tough? We wouldn’t have the wonderful life we have today.”

Lea and Tyler shared this unsolicited, but welcome advice that Tyler received from a patient who was celebrating 42 years of marriage.

She went on to tell him that tough times will come, but you have to stick by your person and refuse to waver.

I think about this a lot.

And I think about the magic and joy of their colorful August wedding weekend on the coast of Maine just as often.

When it comes to weddings, my favorite "yes, and..." is, “We’ve asked a loved one to “marry” us, AND we want a professionally written, pressure-free ceremony script.”

When I was a bride-to-be planning my Jackson Hole wedding, I was shocked and frustrated with the options for our wedding ceremony — the reason for the party!

As a non-religious couple, we had two options: hire a stranger or ask a loved one.

My fiancé’s uncle agreed to do the honors, and we were so excited — until a Google search revealed that without some serious time and effort, our ceremony could easily fall short of what we wanted.

We wanted a ceremony that wasn’t “done to death,” overly religious, or so brief it would be offensive. While everything else related to wedding planning is “easy” to customize, ceremony services that actually offered a deeply personalized experience simply didn’t exist. It was a huge gap in the wedding industry.

So, I made planning our ceremony my passion project. I poured my soul into it. The result? A custom and unique-to-us wedding ceremony that allowed us to be present, feel happy and relaxed, and so “us” that our guests are still talking about years later.

My biggest takeaway as a bride: You shouldn’t have to choose between the comfort of a loved one and the ease of a professional for your wedding ceremony, which is why I offer wedding ceremony writing services to meet you exactly where you are.

When done right, having a loved one officiate your ceremony adds depth and meaning to your memory and wedding.

A few weeks after Nicole and Chris returned from their honeymoon in Greece, we reminisced about their incredible wedding weekend over blueberry biscuit breakfast sandwiches and iced coffees.

When I asked Nicole her favorite part/memory from the ceremony she said, "My favorite part of the ceremony was hearing and saying our vows to one another. And my favorite memory was looking back at my sisters and seeing them sobbing with tears of joy."

I often think when we hear "intimate wedding," we automatically think "small."

And yes, small groups are one way to achieve intimacy. But, for me, it's less about guest count and more about creating and holding space for genuine joy, connection, and presence.

Whether it's for two or two hundred, a meaningful and personalized ceremony that celebrates the essence of who you are as individuals and as a couple is a great way to create closeness.

Every detail of Hannah & AJ's intentional private residence wedding ceremony and celebration was thoughtful and yes, intimate.

Their ceremony was filled with love, laughter, tears, happiness, and total presence.

The mother of the bride couldn't believe how everyone was fully engaged and focused on the moment. Delighted, she told me after the ceremony, "It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop."

For Alex and Mike, it was love at first sight.

They knew they wanted to spend their lives together after a week of being together.

Within two weeks, they chose their first dance song.

A month later, they moved in together.

Needless to say, their lives snapped into place quickly and naturally.

Three years of wedding planning and two beautiful babies later, the weight of the buildup for the ceremony was finally lifted.

The bride's sister did the honors and as you can see, the love and joy was palpable.

Alex and Mike thoughtfully poured themselves into their ceremony and celebration with love, intention, and care. The same way they show up for each other and every other important aspect of their lives.

And after multiple postponements, it would’ve been easy and understandable for Alex and Mike to just cancel their whole celebration, but bringing all their favorite people together in one place to celebrate together in-person was a priority for them, and was more special than ever before.

I’m always hesitant to talk about my “myself” when officiating a wedding ceremony, but insisted that I provide more context – both about my small, big-hearted business AND my relationship with them before diving into *their* love story.

Loree, a long-time friend, reliable running buddy and confidant, was a newly minted MBA when she encouraged me to start a “ceremony-only” company.

Swoon Union was born with her unwavering support and steadfast enthusiasm.

And just like that, I became a former-Hill-Staffer-turned-accidental-entrepreneur and I’m confident that nothing makes Loree prouder than turning another idealist-do-gooder into a savvy female-owned-business person with ambitious goals.

But before I started Swoon Union …

It was 2016 and Loree was visiting my-soon-to-be-husband-Cale and I at our home in Maine for the 4th of July. Over lobsters, copious amounts of butter, blueberry pie, and a healthy dose of rose, Loree shared with us that she met a guy from Baltimore at a wedding in San Diego the previous month. She went on to share that she’d be bringing him as a date to our wedding that fall. His name was Kenny.

We were over the moon! To put it lightly, we simply couldn’t wait to meet him. To know Loree is to know she’s particular 😊 In the best way possible, of course, but particular none-the-less.

Their wedding on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay in Annapolis, Maryland wedding last September was one for the books. Picture perfect in every way. I'll let these images do the heavy lifting.

Hey bb, I need your help!

When Roe fell, I'd just posted about my shiny, new Swoon Union brand from & , which is trivial, and far from even close to the most important thing going on right now.

Especially when we're talking about the catastrophic, devastating SC decision that ended the constitutional right to an abortion and had immediate harmful -- life-threatening, in some instances AND life-altering, in every instance -- consequences for real humans.

Right here. Right now.

I was en route to Sarah & James' dreamy Rhode Island garden wedding and SO tempted to "delete, delete, delete." But I didn't.

Here's why: financial freedom is a powerful way to have more impact in our communities, empower like-minded humans, and influence change.

That’s a long way of saying, money talks.

Good morning from paradise! We’ve sent for our daughter and our things. We live here now :) Cale’s beloved late aunt Cammy, our Cameron’s namesake, lived on Nantucket in the 70s before settling in Santa Fe. For the nearly 15 years Cale lived in Colorado, he called her his “Mom of the West.” Sadly, she passed away before Cale & I started dating and I never had the chance to meet her. Luckily, I often feel her beautiful, rare, free-spirited, big loving, accepting presence. Especially when we’re on this magical island. Her presence always feel like a reminder that you will not miss what’s meant for you — love, friendship, family, community, adventure, opportunity. Anyway, if you’ve ever needed a reason to visit Nantucket, here’s a list of things we’ve enjoyed in the past 36 hours: -being lulled to sleep by crashing waves -eating island-baked cinnamon rolls in bed -showering outdoors with ocean views -watching a glorious sunset (and a fishing boat get washed ashore, hello Mercury Rx! cc: @chaninicholas) -walking the beach by moonlight & eating fondue by candlelight for dinner -and to top it off, Cale surprised me with our Moët soaked vows from 2016, which we renewed last night while snuggling and holding hands around a bonfire on the beach.
