“And so today Lauren and Will aren’t walking into marriage – naïve and hopeful – because for almost five years, they’ve chosen each other—through the whirlwind of dating, the leaps into business and the starting of their beautiful family.

They’ve walked through seasons of laughter that left them breathless, seasons of change that stretched them, and seasons of quiet steadiness where love was simply knowing the other was there.

There have been road trips with deep conversation sharing their hopes and dreams for the future, late-nights with Alfie that were made bearable by hand squeezes and teamwork - and the everyday magic of sharing a glass of wine on the deck of their very own home.

And now, after saying “yes” to each other in a million small ways, they’re making it official. Not because they have to, but because they want to—because they’d choose each other, over and over again.

LIKE YOU [ILLY]

Off the back of Harmony Week celebrated in schools around the country, I wanted to share a little something that underpins everything I do as a celebrant.

INCLUSION
Nine years ago, my (now) husband and I began to plan our wedding. With this, came hours upon hours trawling through social media, pinterest and magazines.

And shockingly (or not really) there was almost NO representation of diversity in the wedding industry. I started to wonder, were people like me not worth celebrating?

While a lot has changed within in the industry since then, this experience has made me appreciate the power of inclusion and diversity in EVERYTHING that we do. An appreciation of the unique little touches that truly do make a wedding.

A bouquet made from blooms reminiscent of grandmother’s garden; a tower of honey jumbles baked by an uncle, in place of a cake; a first dance song pinched from a gig spent starry eyed - hand in hand; and tables named by the places that the couple fell head over heels.

For me, it’s the couples that do things a little differently; the traditional Hindu ceremony in the morning, followed by a saree-laden civil ceremony by twilight; the couple in their 70s that found love when they least expected it; and the burley father tearing up as his son marries the man of his dreams.

It’s the elopements in the ocean and the rave-inspired festival weddings.

But most importantly, it’s representing that fact that love looks a little different for every couple. That the meaning of weddings transcends trends and bucks fads.

So here’s to you, Harmony Day - and for all those small (and big people that’ve been inspired along the way.

STORIES [BOO SEEKA]

Last weekend a guest approached me, asking if by any chance I would’ve been surfing at Dixon Park a couple of years earlier.

A little perplexed, I responded with a yes.

She, a coloured woman, then shared that she sat on the sand watching me - intrigued - because never before in her life had she seen another female POC surfing.

In turn, she had been inspired to start surfing herself. And, in a full circle moment - out surfing, was where she had met the bride from the wedding; who, through shared passion had become one of her closest friends.

For years, she had looked to find me - wanting to share this story, yet at was at this moment, at this wedding where it all came together.

Today, surfing with my daughter (which we’ve done so many times before) hit a little different. You never know the ways that simple actions can have a ripple effect. That by living your passions, you could be inspiring others to do the same.

I don’t know why I’m sharing this story on here… but after the magic of today, I’m feeling incredibly compelled.

Or maybe it’s because I’m a sucker for love and connection in all its beautiful forms.
