The Secret Life of ESP Disk (RCF mix 2022)
The Secret Life of ESP Disk was originally devised around 2010 when TSLOS approached the famed 60s record label label ESP Disk, legendary curator of everything from free jazz like Sun Ra to early avant rock like the Godz. Given carte blanche over their complete digitized catalog, the label enlisted numerous collaborators to produce what was planned to be a double LP of beats and musique concrete culled from the label’s vast archives.
Artists including Mormon Freegan, Nic the Graduate, Radius, PJ Sumroc, Michael Thomas Jackson and Walter Gross all contributed to this ambitious project.
Due to difficulties at the label and with issues such as publishing, The Secret Life of ESP Disk was shelved, although a few cassette copies of the original mix survived.
Now comes 2022 and Remote Control Frequencies are releasing the track ‘ESP’ originally recorded for said release on their new compilation The New Golden Era, available December 1 on streaming services. This new mix, available for free download, includes the track ‘ESP’ in which vocalist Rob R-Rock namedrops everyone from the Fugz to Sun Ra in a sloppy psych rock tribute to ESP Disk artists.
The present mix is
RCF ‘Esp” > Nic the Graduate > Radius > Mormon Freegan > Michael Thomas Jackson
Enjoy!
