This was my second time with the Ward family at their beautiful home out in the country. They're a sporty family so last time they hit the tennis ball around and got the rugby ball out - I love tailoring a session to match where a family is at and what is important to them. This time we didn't get sporting equipment involved (except for a pogo stick at the end!) but we still got some playful photos and the youngest son James showed me the hut that he had been working on which was pretty cool. It gave me that nostalgic feeling of childhoods of the past, spending time outdoors, building and creating. Sure, I didn't actually BUILD anything, but my sister and my bestie Kerryn and I would spend hours setting up 'houses' outside...basically just bringing everything that we could carry outdoors to make a home on the deck or the lawn. We'd spend a lot more time creating then actually playing in them, but I think that's how it always goes - the fun is in the creation of the thing. It's a good metaphor for life really.

A lot more goes into getting images of premises than you might think. During the day when there are cars and people filling up the space there is a lot to do to tidy up an image. During a twilight shoot I choose to underexpose first so I don't blow out the highlights and then work from there. Colour grading, exposure tweaking, dodging, burning, straightening lines and removal of objects is all part of it. I love popping on a podcast or some music and getting stuck in to a gallery like this. It's easy to get into the zone and I can get into a flow state with this type of editing.

Following on from my random rambling in my last post, my fact of the day is that percentages are 'reversible'. So 7% of 82 is the same as 82% of 7.🤯
I don't know how I got to be an adult before learning that little nugget but there we are.

And while you ponder that, enjoy more photos from the B***e Extended family session at Terrace Downs ❤️

I feel like each of these families deserve their own post, so prepare for some photo spam over the next week. I've never actually tried Spam the ham in a can. It's a bit scary. I know it's been around for ever but I just can't do it. A while back I watched my kids watch a youtube video where Lauren Z side tried different flavoured breads that came in a can. Who knew we could can so much stuff?? That's my fact of the day. You're welcome.

When a family of 27 get together to celebrate a special birthday. ❤️
I kinda wish that I had a bigger family. More siblings, more nieces & nephews. I love that bond that cousins have, where they might not see each other all the time, but when they get together after that initial batch of shyness, they are best of mates. 🥰. It's a special thing for sure.

Baby Oliver 🥰. I feel like every time I'm writing a post about one of my newborn sessions I end up talking about how darn cute the baby is and how much I want to squish them and hold them... but seriously how cute is Oliver and don't you just want to squish those cheeks and those chubby baby thighs? Oh my ovaries 😍. I could also add onto this that Louis the dog was a sweet old soul who commands attention and adoration and who poses like nobodies business. And while I'm raving about these two, let's not forget Jess & Willie, the doting parents and sweethearts through and through!

I met Toni way back when we were both in the wedding industry. She'd be setting up one of the beautiful Silk Estate marquees long before I arrived, and she'd be staying long after I wrapped up for the day to keep everything running smoothly. It's one of the things I miss most about working weddings - having a yarn with the other vendors on a weekly basis, so it was nice to catch up with her for her family shoot. She asked me to photograph her with her brother Bruce and her dad Ian in a place that was special to them all, Lake Clearwater. They've had a bach up there forever, so there have been countless weekends and holidays spent in this stunning spot, and it's filled with wonderful memories for them. I love shooting in places that have a special meaning to my clients - and bonus points if it is as pretty as this!

It's world meningitis day. As you guys might know already, I've been working on a very special project for The Meningitis Foundation over the last few months. I travelled all over NZ from Invergargill to Auckland, and did 11 interviews in person and 5 zoom interviews, talking to some incredible people who kindly volunteered to share some truly painful stories with me. Then the editing began, as I sat with each of these stories, holding them in my heart as I worked to edit them into 3 - 5 minute films, knowing how important it was to honor each one as best as I could.
Next was the longer 38 minute film, destined for schools and to be used as a compelling educational tool. It incorporates many of the stories I heard as well as information about this awful disease from a knoweleable vaccinologist.

It has been the hardest but most worthwhile project I have ever worked on and I'm so proud to be a part of it.

Here is a sneak peek of the School Edit. The long form film can be found on my website, but I'll be sharing the indiviual stories on my socials too.

When you see them please watch and share.

The Curwoods. 🥰. Kylie and I have been friends since our daughters were tiny little babies. They are fundraising to get the family over to Florida so Brett can get treatment: Brett suffered a stroke in 2015. Since then he has had a further seven strokes which has left him with a lot of issues including epilepsy, chronic fatigue, confusion, memory loss, vision loss, migraines, tinnitus, extreme vertigo, balance issues, and sensitivity to over-simulation. It's been a tough few years for them to say the least.
Help out if you can. ❤️

Stewart & Holland is a trusted provider of electrical, refrigeration, and air conditioning services in the Mid Canterbury and Selwyn regions.

Our Story

It all started when my grandparents bought me my first camera when I was seven. I spent hours setting up my barbies in mock wedding poses, determined to make some beautiful images. Fast forward 13 years to when I shot my first wedding in 2004. It was my friends wedding, it was with a borrowed film camera, and I was hooked!

Thirteen years on, after a lot of experience and learning, I successfully run my own photography business. And I love it. Why wouldn’t I? I get to go to tons of weddings, time my editing hours around my daughters needs and I meet varied and interesting people along the way. I’m passionate about photography, and I am so happy to be able to capture the very best of human nature every week.
