Queen Street, Wainuiomata Town Centre

Today we will have live bands and performances from local bands and special guests. Sausage sizzle will be available from 11.40 – 1pm
From 10 -1pm our youth will participate in a writing workshop exploring - what dreams, aspirations, poetry and passions they have. Poropiti has organised a jazz composer, 2 song writers and a poet to aid their processes. While this is happening in the hall there will be performances outside on the deck.

Nau mai haere mai ki te rā tuarua o Pūanga rāua ko Matariki - Hiwa i te Rangi 2024.
Arohanui Strings will be opening our performance at 10.20am with their tutor Ellen Murfitt followed by a four-piece jazz band called the Bryan James Quartet from Wellington, with our own Poropiti Rangitawa.
Troy Hunt and his band UKU from Ōtaki will perform 12-1pm before our sit-down hangi lunch from the Wainuiomata marae pit at 1.30pm in the community hall.
Mirimiri will be available in the Kereru room from 9-4pm and bone carving in the back dining room of the hall is set up for the 3 days. You can peruse the different types of taonga pūoro exhibited.

Day 1: Te rā tamariki rāua ko ngā kaumātua - Childrens and Elderly day. 10-4pm. Community Hall and the shared space in the library HUB.
Every day starts off with a karakia at 10am in the Hall.
Tamariki will have a learning session about the Maramataka (lunar calendar).

Performances start around 10.40am and they finish at 12pm. Everyone will have lunch and from 1-2pm the tamariki will pot up a plant learning about how important Ngā pī (bees) are to our eco system and the anatomy of plants. The activities available will be rāranga (weaving), elei printing and bone carving

Mirimiri will be available in Meeting room 1 (Kiwi) within the HUB.
Ngā Kaumātua will hui in the shared space with Māmā Mate and Meto in the HUB and finish around 4pm.

Kia ora, we are opening our hautapu on Pito One Beach opposite Cuba Street, two Oars - at 6am on Thursday 27 June.

We will be starting with a karakia, fire, taonga pūoro, poi and remembering the people that have passed away since last July 2023.

We have also been invited to walk to Petone Beach Kindergarten, 20 King Street for a kai (whakanoa).
