They are from the premire of Voices With Impact 2024 film festival. There will be a discussion of the films on their website this Thursday at 8.

Putting together a planning committee for next year’s festival. I would like to have 5-6 people each bringing their individual skills to making next year’s event even better. So far I have three people other than me interested. I would like to have two more. If you are interested please message me. Once I have the 5-6 want to start a meeting sometime in early July.

My goal with SAUDADE is to raise awareness about mental illness in a way that's respectful to those that experience it. This premise is incredibly important to me, because my mother, my inspiration and hero, has been living with severe mental illness her entire life. Many of my best friends, the people who make me smile every day without fail, struggle to get up in the morning. This film is dedicated to them. Their input, as well as the input of mental health professionals, meant the world to me during SAUDADE’s creation.

As a filmmaker, I want to foster an inclusive space for anyone that's willing to create. Nearly the ENTIRE cast and crew of SAUDADE consists of women, people of color, as well as mentally ill, neurodivergent, and q***r individuals. Prior to SAUDADE, most of them had never taken part in filmmaking before. Many of my wonderful friends are studying in STEM, education, business, and so many other fields. I genuinely believe that movie magic is what brought all of us together.

Through the Modern Looking glass is a timely engaging film about mental health in the age of social media.

This is the director Tanya Chuturkova’s statement

When we read Christina Renee's script, it felt like kismet. Even though our schedules were packed, we just couldn't pass up on this project. Her script was nothing short of daring, weaving the lives of a sprawling ensemble cast together through the maze of social media in a compact genre.

We also saw a potent message in there, one that's urgently needed in this era where social media has us reevaluating our lives and how we connect, and not always in the best way. It was a thrilling and challenging ride bringing this script to life, blending intense real-life moments with the virtual world, all powered by some nifty digital effects.

What made it even more special was our incredible cast, who brought their A-game to the table. Working with such a talented and dedicated group of actors was a true privilege. They breathed life into their characters, adding depth and authenticity to every scene. But it wasn't just our cast that shone, our crew was equally remarkable. Their adaptability and creative prowess were the secret ingredients that made it all come together seamlessly. Whether it was crafting the perfect dramatic moment or seamlessly integrating digital effects to bridge the virtual and real worlds, our crew was nothing short of extraordinary.

It was a thrilling and challenging ride, but thanks to our exceptional cast and crew, everything fell into place. We're proud to have tackled this story and hope it sparks some deep thoughts about how we navigate this brave new digital world.

Poland, peak of Covid-19 pandemic. Piotr due to lockdown and constant isolation suffers from depression. As an autotherapy he decides to try painting. Unfortunately his illness soon gets worse and leads him to the point where he almost loses hope for recovery. His life is now painted only with the colour of silence. While struggling with major depressive episode, his wife gives him endless support in this dark time. Her love helps him get back on his feet, start painting again and regain hope for better tomorrow.

Olivia (Autumn) Rennie, creating under the pseudonym 'Autumn Sky,' is a 3rd year MD-PhD student at the University of Toronto, as well as an independent filmmaker and Artistic Director of her Toronto-based production company, Exuvium Productions. She is a graduate of the Writing for Film & Television Program at Toronto Film School (TFS), and a current student in TFS' Video Production program and Yorkville University's Bachelor of Creative Arts. As a filmmaker, medical researcher, and Emergency physician-in-training, Autumn works to leverage the power of screen-based media to raise awareness about critical issues in medicine and society. Her PhD is a 'research-creation' project, producing films that challenge ideas surrounding disease and disability, and pioneering a radically new 'collaborative filmmaking' methodology which enables patients to become key players in the filmmaking process themselves. Autumn's work also moves beyond traditional documentary modes of filmmaking in medicine, to play in the narrative space - specifically within the horror genre. With an educational background originally in neuroscience, she is particularly interested in exploring the lived experience of individuals with neurological and/or psychological diseases, disorders, or injuries.

“Super Human Anxiety” is about a teenage girl, Whitney, who thinks she’s hiding her strong emotions well. But, when her elevator breaks down, fate forces her to out her secret.

Set in an all girls boarding school in Upstate New York, “Super Human Anxiety” follows the story of a young teenager, Whitney, who has always had strong emotions, but recently they have been presenting themselves as super human strength. She works in overdrive to mask her anxiety and her powers, until today, when her elevator breaks down, Whitney must accept help from Ms. Sweetly to calm her nerves so they can both get out of the elevator safely.

Scroll Food one of the great short films airing on Saturday May 18th.

Set against the backdrop of the pandemic, “Scroll Food” tells the story of Derrick Loomis, quarantining at home alone, absorbing a smorgasbord of social media posts being spread online. His mental health begins to suffer due to his inability to put down his phone and “disconnect” from the world while he also deals with his own personal demons and depression. "Scroll Food" takes an unflinching look at how perception vs reality can blur everyday life.
