This has been a big month or so for Happy Scenes. Halloween arrangements, a memorial service, some last minute miscellaneous orders, a vow renewal, Thanksgiving arrangements, and lastly a non-profit banquet. It may not sound like a lot, but for a part-time, solo newbie still learning the ropes, this has kept me on my toes. I’ve got a back log of some beautiful photos to share, so I’m gonna take the next week to catch up on my brand [insert hair flip] and try to make some good 🥡🥤delivery money from UVA finals week and then I’m back next weekend for some holiday arrangements around the 15th. I’ve got a couple larger orders and while I’m at it, I am gonna make some fun, small arrangements perfect for gifting. Stay tuned for details😉🌹🌲☕️!

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and I am now accepting orders for these autumnal cuties! $35 for an 8” diameter floral arrangement in carved pie pumpkin. Foam-free, environmentally friendly design with a jar inside that easily pops out if/when the flowers outlive the pumpkin, so you can enjoy your arrangement longer. Free delivery within Cville on Wednesday, 11/28. Design will vary, but general size, autumnal color palette, and organic/textured design style will remain! Reach out if interested and please share!

Without bodily autonomy, there is no Happy Scenes. I can’t dream and build something beautiful without the right to plan for my own future in the way that I want. The professional is political. The personal is political. Everything is political.

And let me be clear, this is not the ultimate end goal. This is one tiny step. Excessive and simplistic optimism is very harmful for so many marginalized groups in particular. Politicians are not heroes. They are not your friends. Please do not put them on pedestals. I never give up an opportunity for a cutesie photo op for my dog and I was proud to vote today BUT I’m also enraged and downright disturbed by Harris’ complicity in a genocide. FREE PALESTINE!!

I’m feeling so many things. I will do my best to be on the right side of history and uphold compassion, inclusion, accessibility, and liberation anywhere I can both personally and professionally. Always.

My very first Happy Scenes wedding and first professional event ever was one whole year ago?! 🥹😭🩷 This was such a special day with an adorable couple and a fun, whimsical and earthy theme. Arrangements in mule mugs?! Just so freaking precious! The bride wanted a super organic and foraged style and gave me a ton of creative freedom. It was also super special to get to celebrate a bride I’ve known since elementary school. Happy Anniversary Madison and George!

Happy Halloween week! I set out to make holiday arrangements that would invoke Halloween while not being corny and still being true to my organic, highly textured style. Yes, that’s a real pumpkin and these arrangements are still foam-free! There’s a whole mason jar in there🤫. The pumpkin is treated with vegetable oil for longevity and eco safe disposal, but if the flowers last longer than the pumpkin, just pull the mason jar out. I have two of these for sale later today. $35 each and free delivery within Cville!

I've been sitting on these photos for awhile simply because I couldn't narrow down which photos to share first! Long overdue intro post here! My business name comes from a baby Emma quote - my mom once found tiny me arranging 20 stuffed animals in a circle and when asked what I was doing, I told her it was a “happy scene”. Bringing people together for celebration in intentional spaces has been a natural calling of mine since forever. I served my parents meals from my felt restaurant, designed doll weddings, and elaborately organized slumber parties complete with scheduled p*e breaks. Some of my favorite childhood memories are making miniature gnome houses while eating cinnamon bread in my elementary school handworks class. An obsession with all things arts and crafts has maintained to this day.

Want to know a little more about me? I have a bachelor's degree in sociology, helping to inform my progressive and inclusive values that I incorporate into my work. I have a big confident ginger cat named Bishop and two lazy rescue pit bulls, Libby and Hazel. I am passionate about pit bull advocacy and animal rescue. My fur babies are everything to me and I embrace “pet mama” as my main status. I am definitely a cold weather person and live for autumn leaves, thick socks, hearty soup, and snow days. I want to be cozy all the time. I love Thai food and sushi, live for my coffee (with oat milk of course), and enjoy cooking at home with my husband. My idea of the perfect night is eating food on the couch under a pile of pets and making DIY crafts while binging a TV show. Narrative TV shows are my favorite for the lovable characters and familiarity of the recurring settings. My absolute faves and go to comfort watches are Friends and ER (the Clooney years). I love medical thriller novels, TV retrospective podcasts, and indie folk music.

Starting Happy Scenes this year is not only a professional endeavor, but also a way to help my mental health and create beautiful things for others amongst the darkness in the post Covid world and a very uncertain future. I am endlessly grateful for all the customers and fellow professionals who have helped me get to where I am after just a short time doing this. Thank you!

My first official fall arrangement of the season! I love the warmth and texture that fall brings. Late summer was a slow time and I’ve put flowers on the back burner a little bit, but as we get fully into fall, I am SO ready to jump back in. Fall dinner parties? Halloween parties? Can you tell how eager I am for fall? This is still a summer arrangement but with a not-so-subtle beckoning nod to Halloween. I started my business at the beginning of this year, so this is my first time getting to incorporate my favorite season and year-round personal vibe into my work! There are so many different options for boutonnières! They can be just as individualized and unique as any bouquet or other larger arrangement. This couple wanted wispy ferns and an organic, wildflower style. To add an extra sentimental and personalized touch, they chose to attach custom charms to honor loved ones who’ve passed on and to have them close while they tied the knot.

Self expression and sentimental touches as just as much for boutonnières as bouquets and the options are endless. Boutonnières are tricky in some ways because the flowers have to be sturdy enough to withstand being out of water and being hugged a lot, but the fact that 1.) you can use very short stems and 2.) the cost is way way way lower balances out the challenges with great perks.

Couldn’t have done it without local bridesmaid and co-planner @brettyboo_07 who went on the hunt for party vibes in Eugene on a Thursday night and definitely delivered! Artist credits go to my amazing husband @fellowman_spititout for knitting these naughty scrunchies and to @sadcakebakes for the phenomenal cupcakes and going above and beyond to incorporate our eclectic theme! All other DIYs are mine! A bachelorette party in Eugene called for Saturday Market themed phallic decor. Plastic from Spencer’s wasn’t gonna cut it. We needed folksy artisan 🍆s.🤣 Do you see why I needed the month off? Lastly, a huge shout out to @noregretsfarmsanctuary for our memorable and relaxing goat yoga class and goat happy hour and to @bountymeatandcheese for the chicest charcuterie board.
