Front panel work
Here's my finished nautical!masquerade!reddeath crossover 🌊 I tried to think "what's the scariest thing in the sea?" & of course that would probably be the Kraken! But also tied it into a poseidon-like character as well to fit with the elaborate costume. Shades of blue silk & velvet are the main color scheme with highlights of seaweed, silver, & bronze. Patterns include coral, swirls, stripes, anchors & starfish.
*not finished* so last year I did a mashup of sea princess (star princess, beach theme, 2nd photo) and this year I thought "wouldn't it be cool to turn every masquerade character beach/nautical?" and I wrote down an entire list with lots of notes, but only began rendering 1 so far 😆 this is soooo not finished, but didn't want to show the whole thing yet
I don't think I have the technique down quite yet but I think I'm getting closer
Thank you all for the ribbon advice! I am going to chew on it, wait for some more sample supplies I ordered, and do some more experiments. It's one of my favorite parts of the costume which is why I'd like to get it right. For now I will continue with the basic construction (yawnnn) and finishing up the rosettes which are almost done (decorations, yay!). They just need assembled (black ruffle & gems attached to the rosette bases that already have beading attached).
This was a VERY quick test thrown together but I'd love feedback, thank you guys for responding on the Facebook copy of this post with your ideas. Here I've taken 2 shades of tulle, folded them, then layered them on top. I have 2 lighter shades to experiment with too. The lighting down here and the camera aren't picking it up well so I had to use flash, but you can probably get the gist of the idea. Any ideas of how to improve? (I'd make them narrower and use matching thread, I just did this in like 10 minutes...) Maybe mixing light purple with dark blue and dark purple with the light blue instead of the two darks together. I'm still trying to perfect it. Or if there's a cord or if I should stitch the tops together and do a narrow hem to have a bolder edge... Hmm... Would really like to avoid dyeing NYLON, I feel like I wouldn't get it vibrant enough. I'm not sure what paint could be used on it but if there's suggestions let me know.
Still trying to figure out this trim. Should I make my own with tulle? Like multicolored? Dip-dye? Give me all your suggestions please.... I've already tried looking online for years & can't find similar, so it'll probably have to be made. (Arrows are pointing to the variegated purple blue sheer trim in floral patterns stitched on top of the silver lace)
Looks like absolutely nothing from the front but I've pleated 6 yards (3 +3) for the back/side panels. Now I have to move on to cutting the front panels with the scallops which I'm hesitant to do. But I've already used my sewing "allowance" this weekend & my neck forced me to stop. It'll get there eventually. I'd like to start working on the lace soon as I'll probably have to hand sew all the ribbon. I need to buy ribbon tho & also practice on scrap.
working on this ol' gal & remembering yet again why I can't sew any more for hours at a time (neck PAINNN)
This year's hat - I know I made it last year but didn't go to the event.
Finally gave him whiskies 🌚 wearing for an event today and then this hat will be up for sale. 🐈⬛🪄
Apparently I'm into enamel pins now 💁🏽♀️
Finished rearranging these & stitching them down. Thanks again & friend for getting the Jawa patch for me! Hope I get to add a patch in 2024....
Missing & vacay. would be fun to make the dress on the left in the future for a celebration
One of the staff at the exhibit was pointing up and down to my costume and was like "I love this. I love all of this." And I said thank you, I don't have the wig though!, and he's like "I don't care. I love this." 😎🥰
I also got a couple of compliments on the fabric choice; people ALWAYS have trouble finding a fabric that works for this one so I feel really proud of it.
Without the wig it is definitely my most comfortable cosplay. I had to put my hair in an updo when the mask went on because it's just very hot with so many folks around.
I FINALLY used my patches after like 7 years
When you can't afford a hackle you make one for 5 dollars 💁🏽♀️ works in a pinch 😁
More metal flower crown progress
Very tempting 💁🏽♀️
A graphic design post? What?! --- Thought I'd order a couple discounted sample pieces this month for myself and here's a throwback only 2 people will remember: the graphic design I did for the school newspaper header. I was also editor 🤓 then the 2nd image: my Margaritaville University hoodie is so old and worn, and I can't get MU designs anywhere, so I made my own design. (Not for sale since that's copyright! This is just for my own sake 💙)
I didn't get to do as much creative stuff as I liked in 2021 because I had quite a few major life events (good and bad) that affected my time or energy to create. However I did finish 2 costume pieces, my corset and my Totoro hat. I also completed some of the major decorations for the countess gown. This year I taught myself proper embroidery, and although nothing is posted here post-coursework, I did hone my figure drawing skills with online classes. I did a digital painting tribute of Bob (RIP) and some fun crossover Christine costumes. Lastly, rounded it out with some Star Wars inspired renderings. I started a lot of paintings and drawings but they're in the work in progress bin. Bin meaning strewn all over the basement and tucked away everywhere.
I only have 3 art projects I'd really like to complete in 2022 - my Party Jawa, my Countess Gown, and a drawing I've had in my head for a while (keeping secret for now).
Rigged up the lights, since we're not doing a tree inside this year. ❄️☃️🌨️ (Wreath will be replaced with a lit up one soon)

[👉FOR SALE👈] .... $50 shipped (USA - international would be extra). PayPal friends or Venmo. Contact me directly, preferably by email, to purchase. I'll update here if it sells. I used metallic silver thread along with grays and blacks for this fun Vader motif. The flowers are jasmine, which are the type seen in Padme's casket/hair/etc. These little hoops are perfect for your desk, shelf, or can be strung by the top to hang on a wall... Whatever you like ☺️
Changed the homepage up a little. Do you like this? Is it easier than shopping by type of clothing? (Type of clothing is like all dresses, all shorts, all scarves....) I'd love feedback. I'm not the one navigating the site, you are!, so I want it to be easy and interesting... . . Let me know your thoughts OR if you'd rather make it quick, comment "1" for if you like this "sort by design" or "2" if you like "sort by clothing type" (the way it was previously). . . Next task, which I'm slowly getting to, is adding more actual products.... And adding real-life product images in for the ones I have. Each product has it's own template for every design. It's not like Redbubble where you throw a design on 50 products at once - I think out the placement and size and direction for each piece of each garment/accessory to look the BEST! 😊 You can ALWAYS ask me to put one of my designs on a product if you don't see it in the shop ("I want to buy shorts, but in the ombre wishing design..." -- if it's not up, I'll create a listing for you for free).
