Apologies to the person who sent to me on messenger asking if we meet on a Monday; your message disappeared before I could respond to it. We meet only on Wednesdays.

28/09/2023

Unfortunately, our old meeting place at The Hop was getting rather noisy so we are now meeting at the Spike Islander in Sholing on a Wednesday evening. 7.30 or any time you’d like to join us after that time until about 10pm. We play in the bar to the left as you enter. Sincere thanks goes to our new landlords and staff for making us welcome but also to Stuart and staff at The hop for making us welcome for so long.

Whenever I look at Folk at the riverside page lately, I get stuck and can’t get out of it without completely logging off my iPad. Does anyone know how to fix this? X

21/12/2022

Just wishing a Merry Christmas to all at Folk at the Riverside and hope to see you in the New Year.

02/11/2022

I’m sorry if this gets to folk too late but it’s such an awful night and I can’t find anyone who’s going to the Hop so I guess we need to cancel until next Wednesday. Stay warm and out of the storm all.x

28/08/2022

Hi everyone. Stuart has let me know that there is a wake at The Hop this Wednesday 31st August so there will not be room for our usual meeting. I’ve let him know that we will be there again on 7th September. Happy Bank Holiday Monday to you all.x

23/07/2022

You may be aware that we temporarily changed our meetings at the Hop to a Monday because Wednesdays were rather noisy in the bar. Unfortunately several of our regulars are unable to make Mondays. After some local investigation into whether or not somewhere else could accommodate us, we have decided to go back to Wednesdays at the Hop as of this coming week. (We’ll have to have another rethink if we continue to find it difficult to concentrate on the music). Hope to see you Wednesday then. X

05/06/2022

Just letting everyone interested know that we are going to try moving to a Monday night at the Hop as it is a bit quieter than a Wednesday and we can hear ourselves sing/play. See you there tomorrow night 6th June.

15/03/2022

Hi everyone. Once again, I’m afraid I can’t make it to The Hop this week. It is my Mum’s memorial service tomorrow and afterwards I will be taking my daughter home to Berkshire. Im sure I’ll be with you next Wednesday though. Have a nice evening all. X######

11/01/2022

How do people feel about Bob Dylan songs as a theme for the beginning of February? See you tomorrow night I hope. X

21/12/2021

Unfortunately, someone that John and I were close to on Sunday has been tested positive. It’s only been 12 days since my booster (gov site says 14 days are required for full protection) so we won’t be going to the Hop tomorrow after all. I do hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and hope to see you early in the New Year. The first meeting, Covid allowing, will be Wednesday 5th January. The topic will be ‘self penned’ songs but, as usual, please don’t let it put you off coming if you haven’t got one of your own songs. Christmas love and cheer to all. Sharon x

19/12/2021

Provided that the law doesn’t change by then, we intend to hold our usual gathering at The Hop this coming Wednesday22nd December. At least 6 of us will be attending so do come along if you want to. Please take a lateral flow test before you come. Thanks. For anyone who can’t make it, very best wishes to you for a Merry Christmas and hope to see you on Wednesday 5th of January, if we’re allowed. X

Our venue is at The Hop Inn, Wood mill Lane, Bitterne. We meet at 8pm onWednesday evenings. sorry Geoff, I chant fin your message but it has appeared in my notifications.

01/12/2021

I don’t know why it hasn’t published but I did put a message on here earlier about today being the first Wednesday of the month and how our theme this month is ‘humorous songs’. Please bring one or two along if you can but come along anyway even if you can’t! x

01/12/2021

I’ve just realised that I didn’t put a reminder about it being the first Wednesday of the month! It was suggested we do humourous songs this month so tonight, if you have a humourous song to perform, let’s hear it. If you haven’t, please still come. See you later. X

19/11/2021

Sorry that I posted the same thing twice! It took so long to go on that I thought I’d lost the first one! More to come.

19/11/2021

Just posting some videos from this Wednesday when we celebrated Caroline’s birthday. I hope everyone enjoyed the evening as much as I did.

19/11/2021

Just adding some snippets from this Wednesday evening when we were celebrating Caroline’s birthday. I think a good time was had by all.

31/10/2021

Just a reminder that this Wednesday 3rd November, being the first Wednesday of the month, we have another theme night. This time it’s Simon and Garfunkel. (Both have reached their 80th birthdays recently!). You can choose as many of their songs as you like to perform but if you don’t want to do any of them, come along and listen to others and you can still play/sing whatever else you like. Look forward to seeing you. X

05/10/2021

If you don’t really want to perform a Beatles song tomorrow evening, please don’t let it put you off attending! We won’t be doing Beatles songs all evening. X

So we thought it would make a change to have a musical theme night ; on Wednesday 6th October we are going to sing Beatles songs. You have just over a week to practise some! Beatles songs often crop up at our sessions so it shouldn’t be too difficult to come up with some. If anyone comes up with a duplicate song it won’t matter as we can just sing/play along together. Ideas for future theme nights are very welcome. I would like to put Simon and Garfunkel up as a suggestion.

07/07/2021

I’m sorry this is short notice but John and I won’t be at the hop this evening. John wants to see the football at home and I think the football crowd will be pretty noisy at the pub for us to sing. That’s not to say that any of you can’t go if you want to of course. I haven’t told Stuart that we won’t be attending so do have a nice evening if you decide to attend. Hope to see you all next week. Sharon x

29/06/2021

Hi Everyone. It was so good to see people at The Hop last Wednesday and hear live singing again. We’ll be there again tomorrow evening at about 8. Do join us if you can. Please remember to comply with distancing rules. We are only allowed 6 to a table group and aisles need to be free. Wear masks if you”re not sitting down. Pub fines can be as much as £10000 if rules are flouted and Stuart and his staff have done their very best to accommodate us legally! Look forward to seeing you. X

23/06/2021

We will be in the lounge tonight in our usual spot inside The Hop. Please respect the Covid rules and wear masks when not sitting et cetera, no more than six per table. See you about 830. Xx

17/06/2021

Well, I’ve spoken to Karen at The Hop Inn and we can go to the lounge area of the garden on Wednesday night 23rd June and sing/play. There are 3 tables of six. Hope to see some of you there. ###
