It's
Go get your free donuts!!

National Doughnut Day, celebrated in the United States and in some other countries, is on the first Friday of June of each year, succeeding the doughnut event created by The Salvation Army in Chicago in 1938 to honor those of their members who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. The holiday celebrates the doughnut. Many American doughnut stores offer free doughnuts on the occasion.

Hostess CupCake Day is celebrated annually on May 11 to commemorate the day the first Hostess CupCake was sold in 1919. Produced by the Taggart Baking Company, Hostess CupCakes were originally known as Chocolate Cup Cakes. Hostess CupCakes became so popular that in 1988 alone, 400 million of these cupcakes were sold.

Hostess CupCakes were sold for the first time on May 10, 1919. The first commercially-produced cupcake, Hostess CupCakes were produced by the Taggart Baking Company. They were originally called Chocolate Cup Cake. At the onset, two Hostess CupCakes were priced at five cents. The cupcakes had a variety of toppings, including malted milk or vanilla icing. During the 1940s, an orange-flavored cupcake was added to the mix.
However, it was during the 1950s that Hostess CupCakes took on the distinct identity that it still has today.

Happy
According to food historians, many cultures around the world have enjoyed cooked bread and cheese since ancient times. The United States modern version of the grilled cheese sandwich originated in the 1920s. As sliced bread and American cheese became easily available, Americans began making open-faced grilled cheese sandwiches.

NATIONAL CRAB MEAT DAY

Observed annually on March 9th, National Crab Meat Day (also National Crabmeat Day) offers a day to celebrate one of America’s favorite crustaceans. With 1.5 million tons of crab consumed every year around the world, plenty of crab meat lovers celebrate every year.

While crab meat is a healthy choice, the fat and calories add up once you add the butter. And there are thousands of species of crabs, but only certain ones are edible. In the United States, some of the more popular and tasty ones are the blue crab, stone crab, Dungeness, king, and rock or snow crabs. They come in both hard and soft shells and can be found along all the coasts and Hawaii.

Enjoying the meat of these crustaceans can be done in many ways. Boiled crab, either the legs or the whole creature, results in a feast requiring some labor from the diner. However, every tasty morsel is well worth the effort. Mix the meat with other ingredients to create dips, cakes, or soups

On we honor

Lena Richard

Mama Lena was the “Martha Stewart” of New Orleans—a trained chef, acclaimed cookbook author, restaurant and catering business owner, frozen food entrepreneur, TV host and cooking school teacher. With skillful élan, Richard artfully tore down racial and economic barriers in the heart of the Jim Crow South, improving the livelihoods of current and future African Americans in her community.

We missed it yesterday

Fun facts!
Oreos were first manufactured at the Nabisco factory in New York City on March 6, 1912. Oreo released two flavors that year including original Oreos and a lemon meringue flavor, which was discontinued in 1920.

Double Stuf Oreos are supposed to be double the filling, however, they only are 1.86 times bigger than regular Oreos. Mega Stuf cookies, known to have three times the filling, only have 2.68 times the creme in reality. Still, that's a lot of stuffing, so we'll let these exaggerations slide.

Oreo bakeries make more than 123,000 tons of creme to fill their perfect cookies. Each original Oreo cookie is 29 percent creme and 71 percent cookie.

Each Oreo wafer is baked for exactly 290.6 seconds at a temperature of 400°F from above and 300°F from below.

The first French word for chocolate mousse translates in English “chocolate mayonnaise”

The “blood” that you see in infamous “shower scene” in Psycho is actually chocolate syrup.

The history of chocolate cake goes back to 1764, when Dr. James Baker discovered how to make chocolate by grinding cocoa beans between two massive circular millstones.

A process for making silkier and smoother chocolate called conching was developed in 1879 by Swiss Rodolphe and made it easier to bake with chocolate as it amalgamates smoothly and completely with cake batters.

In the U.S.A, “chocolate decadence” cakes were popular in the 1980s; in the 1990s, single-serving molten chocolate cakes with liquid chocolate centers and infused chocolates with exotic flavors such as tea, curry, red pepper, passion fruit, and champagne were popular
