It's Children's Mental Health Week this week. Our franchisor Becky has recently written a blog focusing on children's mental health and how we can support our children through their childhood. Take a read of the blog here:

Our children’s mental health is a priority. As parents and carers, we strive to have happy and healthy children and support them in any way we can. I don’t know about you but with so much going on in our children’s lives, it is often hard to know how best to support them especially when we aren’t with them all of the time and don’t always know what situations they have faced each day. My children are 8 and 11 years old now and this is what I particularly find difficult. They spend so much time at school and when they come home and they haven’t had a particularly good day or they are quiet about their day, it is sometimes hard to work through it with them and know how best to support them.

No child is the same so there will never be a strategy or best way to offer support. Our children also develop and change so much whilst they grow up so ways of supporting your child will inevitably change over time.

I think a key priority is talking with our children. Talking through each day and offering guidance where we can. Consider the best time to talk about their day, for example a special time at night time before they go to bed reflecting on the greatest parts about their day and then something that wasn’t so great. Our children are in the driving seat to their mental well being but we can be there on the side lines cheering them on and boosting their confidence as much as possible. Talking is so important and the power of speech goes a very long way.

If you have a child who struggles to get out their words or talk about their day then the thumbs up, thumbs down strategy might work well. You ask your child questions which they can answer with thumbs up or thumbs down. Start the questions off very light and simple. Did you enjoy our journey into school today? Did you eat a nice lunch today? Then if you suspect something you could ask was everyone nice to you today? They can simply answer with thumbs up or thumbs down.

I came across this quote from Charlie Mackesy and absolutely love it:
‘Tears fall for a reason and they are your strength, not weakness’ - Charlie Mackesy

Children learning about different emotions, expressing emotions and learning strategies to deal with different emotions is so important as they grow and fundamental in order to manage their mental health.

I just want to conclude by saying that as parents, supporting our children’s mental health is tough and there is no one solution. All we can do is be there to support and guide our children and do the best we can. If you need someone to talk to, supporting each other in our journey as parents is important too. You can reach out to any of our Pop Up Play Village team, we would be more than happy to listen.

Exciting News! 🎉

We have created Brand New Wellbeing Planning which focuses purely on supporting children's mental health. Our franchisor Becky has recently completed training on play therapy techniques in order to create this planning. Our Wellbeing Planning uses play therapy techniques and our village play areas to support children's mental health.

We have 7 core areas that our Wellbeing Planning covers. These are:

- Safe Expression and Emotion Regulation
- Developing Self Esteem
- Developing Problem Solving Skills
- Building on Relationships with others
- Developing Communication Skills
- Developing Coping Strategies
- Developing a Sense of Control

Our Wellbeing Planning is aimed at working with children 1:1 or in a small group to focus on one specific area to support their mental health. We can offer sessions in schools and early years settings as well as private sessions for children in their own home.

If you would like any further information, do let us know. We would love to tell you more!

Calling all Heads, Teachers, TAs, Nursery and Preschool Staff, PTA members ⬇️⬇️⬇️

We can set up our role play village in your nursery, pre-school or primary school to offer your children the chance to explore and play in their own unique village.

Choose from a variety of different role play areas to suit your setting. We can theme our village to meet the requirements of a class topic, school value or celebration.

We also have 5 week programmes which focuses on key areas of learning:

- Communication and Language
- Problem Solving
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Writing for a Purpose

In these sessions, we set up our role play village for the children to learn through play with the focus being on developing a specific area of learning as well as the benefits of our village being cross curricular too.

Each week we will build on what we have been learning the previous week so that by the end of the 5 week programme, the children have had a high quality learning experience purely through play.

Do send us a message if you would be interested in more information for your setting or your child's school.

Did you know that as well as popping up our village for play sessions, birthday parties, wedding entertainment , for schools and early years visits and for festivals and fayres, we also run themed classes!

We have such a wealth of themed planning developed by our franchisor Becky, a primary school early years specialist teacher. We use our themed planning to run themed classes and also for private bookings such as school visits where we tie in with a topic that a group of children are learning at school and also we can run themed parties.

Take a look out for themed sessions that are running locally in your area, they are not to be missed and they usually only run for a limited amount of time. To see where we are popping up near you, take a look here: https://buff.ly/3bIiCD2

Open Plan for Open Ended Learning Opportunities sits at the heart of our values.

Our innovative design gives parents peace of mind. The open plan and low-level activity means you can easily see your little ones at all times, no matter where he or she may play!

Also by having an open plan village, children can see everything that is available for them to explore which enables them to make connections between one play area and another creating a high quality play experience 🥰.

Our Story!

Pop Up Play Village is a fun, inspirational place for children from birth to around 8 years old. It is a portable play village that features a supermarket, hospital, baby nursery, vets, construction site, Usborne library and café! On our event days, we also feature an art studio where children can get creative by choosing a craft to decorate and take home.

Children can feed, dress and look after the babies in the nursery. They can be a waiter or order food from the menu at the cafe. At the hospital, they can dress up as a doctor or nurse or be a patient who needs to get better! At the vets, they can bring their poorly pets in or dress up and be a vet themselves! In the supermarket, they can shop, use price lists and pay for food. At the Art Studio, children can get creative! They can choose from a variety of different options and make something to take home and cherish!

For grown-ups, Pop Up Play Village has a cafe selling hot, cold drinks and snacks.

Pop Up Play Village has predefined play sessions on our event days. This allows us to limit the number of children attending each session which ensures a quality play experience for all. At the end of each play session, Pop up Play Village is tidied so that it is ready for the next group of explorers! Play sessions must be pre-booked in advance.
