I know what it’s like to have a sh*tty wedding day...

June 1, 2013 was both the happiest and saddest day of my life.

June 1, 2013 was my own wedding day, which changed the course of my life and career.

June 1, 2013, the day that I had dreamed of forever, the day I would become a wife, have myself a sexy hunky husband, and we would live happily ever after.

Unfortunately, June 1, 2013 was not a fairy tale day for me, La Rae, owner/photographer/videographer here at Wild Soul Weddings.

When asked what went wrong, there is a laundry list.

But it all boils down to a couple of things:

I didn’t know what I was doing, I didn’t know how to plan a wedding, and I didn’t feel heard when I did ask for what I wanted.

As one of the only people in my family to have a bigger, traditional wedding, I was on my own in terms of planning. No one told me what to do. Pinterest was JUST becoming a thing, there were no facebook groups like there are today where I could ask questions. I was walking down a path with no light, hoping I was making the right moves.

I wasn’t in the position to hire knowledgeable, helpful vendors.

Everything fell on me, and like I said, I had no idea what I was doing anyways.

After my wedding day, which didn’t feel like it was truly about me at all, I felt so empty. I felt angry. I sought help with a therapist, and we met for about a year to help me deal with the sadness and anger I felt.

When eventually I became a wedding photographer, I vowed that I would help my clients so much that they would never have to feel the way I felt after my sh*t-show wedding day.
