Speaking of spooky, we have a little something for everyone in October! Visit libertyastoria.org to get your tickets today!
While the number 13 might have a spooky reputation, here in Astoria, our missing 13th Street has a story of its own! Back in 1843, when Astoria’s street grid was being laid out, a little disagreement between surveyors meant that 13th Street… well, never made it. But don’t worry! You can find a one-block remnant of 13th St. between Exchange and Duane—right behind our historic theater!
Now, we can't promise Jason will still be hanging around, but the Liberty Theatre has nearly 100 years of history and mystery to share! Come explore... if you dare. Learn more about our shows and events at libertyastoria.org!
It’s nearly here! Join us tomorrow, September 14th at 5 pm, as we celebrate 99 years of Liberty Theatre! Experience a magical evening with exquisite canapés by the renowned Chef Chris Holen, followed by a high-end auction featuring exciting raffle baskets and game prizes. Your attendance not only promises an enchanting night but also supports our Kids Make Theatre initiative, helping to foster creativity and talent in young aspiring performers.
Don’t miss out on this unforgettable celebration!

Calling all Oregon individual performing artists! We are helping to spread the word regarding this exciting funding opportunity. There is a VERY tight deadline - don't wait!
"The James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation believes that the arts connect us to each other in powerful and surprising ways and help us make sense of our world. By celebrating the vital role artists play in enriching the lives of all Oregonians, we recognize that artists are essential to our state’s vitality.
For over two decades, the Foundation has funded the arts throughout Oregon, primarily through supporting the work of arts organizations. We are now pleased to introduce our new Spark Award for Oregon Artists, a pilot program that will provide direct support to 60 artists across artistic disciplines who are at a midpoint of their career.
The Miller Foundation will grant $25,000 to each artist selected. Funds can address any barriers to sustaining and advancing your artistic practice, offering time to explore, reflect, connect, or create work at a particularly important moment in your creative development. 2024's focus is on performing artists: Individual artists creating original work in the performing arts: dance, music, theater, and other performance practices, traditional and folk performance, Culture Bearers and interdisciplinary artists whose work includes the performing arts as one of the primary forms of expression."
Learn more: https://www.millerfound.org/grants/artists-grant-program. Please be sure to share this with fellow artists and performers!

We are incredibly honored to have been chosen by Ana Holen and Elli Rimell for their senior project! These two rockstars organized and executed a culinary event at the Theatre to establish a Liberty Theatre Arts Scholarship for Astoria High School students pursuing higher education in the arts. From menu planning to marketing, assembling a team, and raising funds, they did it all!
We are thrilled to announce that, with a small match from the Liberty Theatre, the scholarship fund has now reached $10,000! Each year, this scholarship will support AHS students continuing their education in dance, culinary arts, fine arts, visual arts, or performing arts at a 2-year or 4-year school.
Brava, Ana and Elli! 🎉

We've released a few more tickets for Fran Lebowitz on Sept 24! Get them now at libertyastoria.org
Her essays and interviews offer her acerbic views on current events and the media – as well as pet peeves including tourists, baggage-claim areas, after-shave lotion, adults who roller skate, children who speak French, or anyone who is unduly tan. The New York Times Book Review calls Lebowitz an "important humorist in the classic tradition." Purveyor of urban cool, Lebowitz is a cultural satirist whom many call the heir to Dorothy Parker.

Did you know we have a mural on our stagehouse? Part of our upcoming exterior renovation includes addressing the cracks and water leaks that run vertically and horizontally along this wall, allowing significant amounts of water into our theater and banquet hall below. Not to worry, though, we're working with a local artist to restore a mural to our exterior when we're finished! You can help us bring this vision to life by supporting our renovation project. To close the funding gap, please consider making a donation. Visit our website at libertyastoria.org/donate to contact us today.

Before starring in her character’s eponymously-named Vampira Show or in director Ed Wood’s cult-classic Plan 9 from Outer Space, Maila passed her days in Astoria dancing the jitterbug and driving the local bookmobile. The evening will begin with a Q & A with Vampira’s niece, Sandra Niemi, author of the biography “Glamour Ghoul: The Passions and Pain of the Real Vampira.” Following the Q & A, we will show Plan 9 from Outer Space. 7:00p on October 27th at the Liberty Theatre.
