Never Land hit SCIFF screens in 2019! NEVER LAND tells the story of an inner-city foster boy who has nothing in this world but his own strength and imagination. His only escape is through his dreams, transporting him to Neverland, where all Lost Children without parents go to fit in and be loved.

Brett Smith is a writer, director, from Bellevue, WA. Having been involved in filmmaking for eighteen years, Brett's work ranges from Hollywood backed feature films, to local and national corporate and non-profit video work. Brett is a self taught filmmaker, who's goal is to tell deep and emotionally challenging stories with humanity at the core.

SAVE THE DATE!

As Ragbrai LI starts today, it seemed like the PERFECT day to announce our community screening of SHIFT: The Ragbrai Documentary!

This screening will be held on the evening of Friday, September 27th at the Sioux City Art Center and will be free and open to the public. More details will follow soon!

"Shift: The RAGBRAI Documentary," directed by journalists Courtney Crowder and Kelsey Kremer, explores the people who ride, the towns that host and the space RAGBRAI offers riders to sift through life’s joys and challenges.

Good luck to this year's riders and we hope to see the community come out on the 27th for this screening!!

We screened fun film, Quarantined with a Ghost, during our post-pandemic fest! Returning filmmakers, Justin & Kristin Schaack, created a delightful story of a woman being quarantined to her home with a ghost for a housemate.

Justin & Kristin Schaack are a comedy writing/directing duo that have been making films together for almost 20 years. They’re a married team that began their creative partnership in the theater waaaaaay off-broadway: 6th grade, middle school productions. They both went to film school: Chapman University [K] & University of Southern California [J] and currently direct and produce commercials and visual content for large corporations (to pay the bills) and direct independent films that have screened at 200+ international film festivals and have received numerous audience choice, best film, best comedy, and best directing awards (because they love it).

Band Together: McCook Lake Flooding Benefit Concert is being held on Friday, July 12 & Saturday 13 at The Marquee & The Green Room located at 1225-1227 4th Street, Sioux City, Iowa. Two nights, twenty bands, & two stages with silent auctions, raffles, food, and more - all starting at 5:00pm. Band Together: A two day benefit concert for those affected by the tragic flooding in McCook Lake and surrounding areas will take place at The Marquee & The Green Room on Historic 4th Street in Sioux City, IA on Friday, July 12 & Saturday, July 13. Twenty bands on two stages, silent auction, raffles, food, and more. All proceeds benefit the victims of the tragic 2024 flooding in McCook Lake & surrounding areas.

Negative Spaces, Directed by Michaela Wadzinski, hit the SCIFF screen in 2018 as part of our Animation with Disney's Ron Clements category. This award winning film explores what would happen if your sketchbook drawings came to life. The possibilities of an open page are exciting, but being erasable has its drawbacks.

Director Michaela Wadzinski was a Junior Film and New Media Major at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln at the time of this fest. She has emphasizes in both Direction and Animation. She has a passion for mixing live action and animation in unexpected ways.

Happy 4th of July SCIFF fans...we thought This Land is Our Land was the perfect TBT pick for this week!

We screened This Land is Our Land in 2018! This documentary explored the largest Niobrara Chalk formation in Kansas, a mile-long stretch of 100-foot-tall spires and badlands terrain. The Nature Conservancy's Smoky Valley Ranch opened this natural wonder to the public, after prolonged negotiations with ranchers and private land owners.

Directors Ryan Borts and David Poyzer co-own marketing outfitter firm, Canoe There, based in Des Moines, IA. Their firm does video production, commercial photography, web development, graphic design, and writing, working directly with businesses and through agencies.

Our judging team has their work cut out for them as they watch OVER 40 HOURS of short films...and, because we ensure each film is viewed by at least 3 judges, this happens at least THREE TIMES!!

The Foursome hit the SCIFF screens in 2021! This film follows the charming story of Iowa’s Waukon Golf Club and a friendship that has lasted well beyond 18 holes. This short documentary follows a lively foursome as they play their 50th outing at the Waukon Men’s Invitational.

Director Zach McTee is an Emmy-nominated Executive Producer, with 16 years experience navigating the worlds of digital content, film, and TV. Recently, he was the Executive Producer for the feature length horror film, Dead County (2021).

We screened this gem in 2019 and were honored to host Nora Kirkpatrick (an Iowa native) as one of our Women in Film panelists! Since 2019, Nora was a writer for Daisy Jones and the Six, directed episodes of The Goldbergs, directed and wrote for The Coop, and more!

Synopsis:
After accidentally tuning to a mysterious late-night radio show, small-town, and sexually repressed woman, NAN (30), calls in to get some answers to her pressing questions about existence, marriage and her purpose on this earth.

What started out as a one-day event that could barely fill one ballroom at the Sioux City Convention Center, has evolved into a four-day extravaganza that includes parades, drag shows, family-friendly activities, educational forums and much more at multiple locations.

Director and Star of "I Hope They Remember My Name" - Patrick Weiers is an emerging Canadian artist and filmmaker who’s been working professionally for over five years. He’s continuously on the hunt to explore contemporary consumption patterns while expanding the boundaries of cinema. I Hope They Remember My Name is about a famous vlogger, struggling with depression, who travels to Asia and documents his search for dopamine. Screening: Saturday 10/2 at 1pm and Sunday 10/3 at 2pm.
