To celebrate National Police K9 Day (September 1st), our K9's and their handlers conducted proactive saturation patrols that resulted in several arrests, seizure of drugs, and the recovery of a stolen vehicle. The following cases are just a few from last night’s proactive policing.

- Driving under suspension 1st and operating uninsured

- Driving under suspension 3rd and habitual traffic offender

- Traffic stop that led to foot chase and apprehension of wanted suspect.

- Traffic stop and recovery of stolen vehicle from Georgia, driver arrested for driving under suspension and possession of stolen vehicle, passenger arrested for possession with intent to distribute co***ne.

Great Job Cpl. Cassell (K9 Boss), Cpl. Wimpey (K9 Duke), and Sgt. McFarlin! We love our K9's and we can't say enough what a great asset they are to our department and to the City of Pickens.

ALL PROCEEDS from this race will go towards purchasing a wheelchair accessible swing to be placed at the Doodle Park.

Youth Leadership Academy is charter middle school in Pickens, SC serving 288 students in grades 6-8. Each year, the students at YLA participate in a service project that will benefit the local community. In the past, students participated in a Burpeethon to raise funds for special needs children in the area. This year, the focus is on providing wheelchair accessible swings to the playground at the Doodle Park to benefit a wider range of people throughout the whole community.

The race will begin at 9:00am. Awards will be presented around 10:00am after the last participant has finished.
