Meet our 1st Runner Up, Freya! 🏆

This was Freya's second year at the National Final, where she represented South West England 👏

For Freya's prize, she will enjoy a special day with the on-site Chef Brigade, participating in the preparation of the menu. Following this culinary experience, she will have the opportunity to join up to three guests of her choice in a hospitality box/area to immerse themselves in the atmosphere. As part of the prize package, Compass Group UK & Ireland will also cover travel and accommodation expenses for Freya and one additional guest ✨

Absolutely stunning meal this evening by Duchy chef LTD and his super talented daughter Freya.

We had the privilege of enjoying Freya’s award winning tiramisu desert after a beautifully cooked lamb accompanied by red lentil dhal, coconut and carrot puree, pickled carrot and an onion bhaji.

This is what 2 years of hard work,dedication and practice gets you when you start at 13 and want to be the best you can be. . Thank and for giving my daughter the platform to compete and fan the flames of her passion at the start of her love affair with food . None of this could have happened without her adopted chef uncles that have treated her like their own since she was 8 my friends and brothers in arms you know who you all are . Most importantly thank you for mentoring her through the last 3 competitions and just being you and supporting her every step of the way. A big thank you to for allowing freya the space and time she needed every time she prepares for her competitions and supporting her through stages
I am and always will be immensely proud of you. You’re going to do great things in this industry. Just stay you and never change.

Well it’s another proud dad post again … sorry!. was presented with her junior chef of the year award for 2023 . She had a great evening, met loads of food heroes. Who had nothing but kind words for her. She was totally buzzing on the hour drive home 🙄😂. Well done To our baby girl you are amazing and make it very easy to be proud of you. 2023 you excelled on 2022, so watch out 2024!

Freya cooked Creedy Carver chicken breast boudin, smoked mash, carrot purée, Roscoff onion, tenderstem broccoli, red wine jus & chicken skin crisp.
Since becoming the joint winner of Cornwall Junior Chef of the Year in June, Freya has been mentored by judge, in preparation for the final.

Freya will be presented with her award at our dinner on 24th October when the winner of the Home Cook final that also took place today will be announced.

Duchy Chef was founded in 2017 as a result of one chef’s passion to showcase local produce and create exciting dishes outside of the restaurant environment, making finer dining accessible to all.

With formidable talent, an all-encompassing passion for all-things food and a love for seasonal, local produce, Duchy Chef’s founder Craig Barrett is classically trained and has a background in working for some of London’s finest establishments.

By building long-lasting relationships with award winning local suppliers and working with a range of Cornish venues to creating exciting pop-up events around the region, Duchy Chef has fast become one of Cornwall’s leading private chef and exclusive events catering companies.

“For as long as I can remember, food and amazing produce have been the focus of my day. Whether it was cooking with my dad (Also a chef) or picking the spoils from my grandfather’s greenhouse, food always came first! When we moved to Cornwall, something about the sea air and cooking fish from the day boats inspired my cooking renaissance. It gave me a real appreciation of our stunning landscape, from which we get so much fabulous produce.
