NYAFF is honored to present the Daniel A. Craft Award For Excellence In Action Cinema to director Yugo Sakamoto 阪元裕吾 at the 23rd Annual New York Asian Film Festival.
Yugo Sakamoto won many awards for his short films before the release of his first feature, “The Janitor” in 2021. He won the Best New Director Award at the Japan Film Critics Awards for “Baby Assassins,” which went on to be screened at many film festivals, gaining him an international fanbase.
Previous recipients of the Daniel A. Craft Award For Excellence In Action Cinema include Lee Thongkham (2023) and Jang Hyuk (2022).
The award ceremony will be held at SVA Theatre July 27, followed by the World Premiere of Yugo Sakamoto’s film “Baby Assassins: Nice Days” and a post-screening Q&A with producer Yusuke Suzuki and the awardee. ⭐
🎥 Yakuza Kyouji Narita must learn to sing to compete in a karaoke contest. Who does he enlist for help? The angel-voiced high school choir club leader Satomi Oka. The stakes are higher than expected, however, as the consequences of losing the contest spell something ominous.
“Let’s Go Karaoke” is based on Yama Wayama’s manga by the same name and directed by Nobuhiro Yamash*ta (“Linda Linda Linda”). Starring Go Ayano and Kazuki Kitamura, the film is replete with goofy shenanigans and sinister crime-film tropes.

🎥 Welcome to the Bates Motel’s seedier cousin. Min-cheol, a motel receptionist, is deep in debt to a cadre of Jabba the Hutt-like loan sharks. In order to pay them back, he sells illegal voyeuristic films to the highest bidder. When he captures footage of an unconscious woman with a guest, he’s trapped between selling the footage and making bank, or reporting it to the police.
With many award winning shorts under his belt, THE GUEST starring Lee Ju-seung is Director Yeon Je-gwang’s skin-crawling debut.

Kento Yamazaki 山崎賢人, the recipient of the Best from the East Award at the 23rd Annual New York Asian Film Festival is a warrior, boy-next-door, and prince of live-action anime adaptations.
Though most known abroad for his role as Arisu from “Alice In Borderland,” Yamazaki’s career spans back to 2010. In 2015 Yamazaki starred in “No Longer Heroine” and won the Rookie of The Year award at the Japan Academy Film Prize for his performance. He’s been in the live-action versions of all your favorite anime, “Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable,” “Golden Kamuy,” and “Your Lie in April,” just to name a few.
Previous recipients of the NYAFF Best from the East Award include Lee Hanee (2023) and Ryu Seung-ryong (2022).
The award ceremony will be held at Film at Lincoln Center @filmlinc July 20, followed by the International Premiere of Kento Yamazaki’s latest film “Kingdom: Return of the Great General” and a post-screening Q&A with the star himself and producer Shinzo Matsuhashi.

New York Asian Film Festival is honored to award Tai Bo 太保 with the Star Asia Lifetime Achievement Award.
Tai Bo began his career in the industry working behind the scenes before transitioning into an award-winning career as an actor. He first appeared on screen as a stuntman, eventually joining Jackie Chan’s team. He has gone on to win many prestigious awards, including one for his performance in @ray.yeung.372 @TwilightsKissMovie His work in films “The Brink” (NYAFF ‘17), “Hand Rolled Cigarette” (NYAFF ‘20) and “The Silent Forest” (NYAFF ‘20) solidify his status as a Hong Kong cinema mainstay.
Previous recipients of the NYAFF Star Asia Lifetime Achievement Award include Junji Sakamoto (2023) and Ann Hui (2021).
