Robins Bay All Inclusive Affair
…A Review of 2023
After an absence of some 3 years the Robins Bay Affair was in full swing again on March 18th 2023.... bigger and better. Patrons started to arrive as early as 2pm just to enjoy the beautiful scenery and ambiance of the place. People were watching the blue skies all afternoon hoping that the rains which had fallen between Wednesday and Friday would not recur. As the people streamed in they were greeted with melodious sounds coming from the sound system being played by the local DJs followed by a free flow of a variety of soups, fried pressed plantains, escovieched salt fish and sprats, fried bammies and roast yam. The regular disco man had some transportation difficulties and didn’t arrive early as expected but during this time the local disco filled the void without complaint.
The equipment arrived at about 5 pm and by that time the top flight DJs Richie Clarke, Clive Buddo, Craig Ross et al were ready a rearing to go.. and don’t ask if they didn’t pump up the tempo and had the guests jumping and swinging.
With end of this initial energetic session people started filing to the main food area so as to replenish the lost energy and to prepare for the next experience of musical treats. The food was plenty and delicious but the line was unusually long due to glitches with the servers/serving utensils and the flow of food from the main production area. ( a problem that will be corrected in 2024). The main food area consisted of the delicious curried goat, curried chicken, jerk pork, jerk chicken and beef, vegetable, chicken and seafood pastas and had all the people’s mouths watering. The vegetarian delights arrived a bit late but when it did arrive there was no disappointment whatsoever as word got around and some people who had already eaten went back for more …the unusual treats which consisting of stewed chick peas, vegetable spring roles, fish fillets with calaloo and saltfish dumplings all of which caused a stir among the patrons.
The desserts which flowed throughout were specially prepared with the demographics in mind and consisted of Julie’s bread pudding, Mrs Thomas’ potato and cornmeal pudd’n, grata cake, coconut drops and gizzadas.
While the liquor flowed like a steady stream from the Wag Water river, the music thumbed and people were skanking until a light drizzle came and as you know Jamaicans are terribly afraid of rain but that didn’t stop them from dancing and those who didn’t want to “catch a cold” packed the covered area while Craig Ross let loose the latest Soca.
Despite the drizzles many people especially those that were staying in the area lingered for some time eating and drinking some of what was available.
Sunday morning by about 11am people were back on the scene to continue the celebrations. Some even journeyed back from Kingston.
