There's lots coming up this week as part of our Illuminate festival.
Tonight we're inviting you to join us at St Mary's Church (7pm) when Jayne Davies will lead our True Stories event. Please come along to share your story - or just listen to others! We'll have a bar and can promise a friendly, low-key experience that'll give you a warm start to your week! It's FREE to attend - just turn up!
This is our last call for Emma Mizon's yoga sessions on Tuesday 11 Feb. We're offering a men's yoga class at 11am and a general class at 2pm - both focused on wellbeing and relaxation and suitable for beginners. You'll need to book today (just £8.50pp; free for passholders).
We had a blast at last night's film screening of The Personal History of David Copperfield! Thanks to all who came out on a blustery evening. Big thanks to Zoe who gave us a thought-provoking intro and answered all our questions with skill and good humour!
Our next film is Tue 11 Feb, again at the Lunesdale Hall, where we'll screen a recent, highly reviewed British film - Polite Society (12A). This is a sweet, funny and action-packed drama with a feisty heroine who has a love of martial arts and a deep suspicion of her older sister's suitor. I can't recommend this film highly enough - if you love comedies with real heart and warmth, you should definitely join us for this one. Tickets £4 (pay on the door) and free for U18s and passholders! We're hoping you'll support this film programme - if we get enough interest, we'd like to bring more cinema experiences to KL. Please consider coming along.

We've got a real treat for cinema-lovers tonight! The Personal History of David Copperfield (PG) is a wonderful and sensitive re-telling of the enduring Dickens classic. Beautifully shot and with an impressive cast, it's a warm hug of a movie. If. you haven't seen it, this is a great opportunity to catch it on your doorstep (Lunesdale Hall); if you have, I'm sure you'll agree it's worthy of a re-watch!

The performance will be preceded by an introduction to our film series from lecturer in film and media Dr Zoe Crombie (if you're a regular at The Dukes, you'll already be familiar with Zoe's work). Doors open at 6.15PM for drinks and snacks from the bar. Zoe's intro will be held at 6.45PM, followed by a Q&A. There'll be time to grab another drink before we settle down to the screening at 7.30PM.

Tickets cost just £4 (under 18s completely free). You can book in advance or pay on the door (cash and card).

Please join us - we can promise an entertaining night out with a genuine community feel. If you've never seen a film screening at Lunesdale Hall, you're in for a treat.

Polite Society (12A) at 7.30PM on Tue 11 Feb, Wicked Little Letters (15) at 7.30PM on Thu 13 Feb, The Great Escaper (12A) at 2PM on Sun 16 Feb (admission FREE), Kensuke's Kingdom (PG) at the children's cinema afternoon session (12-3) on Wed 19 Feb (admission FREE including lunch and crafts) and The Old Oak (15) at 7.30PM on Thu 20 Feb.

Do you like telling - or hearing - real life stories? Join us for a free, fun, informal evening of storytelling with Jayne Davies at 7PM on Monday 10 Feb at St Mary's Church.
Come along and share your true stories on the theme of ‘My Lightbulb Moment’. Stories can range from the profound to the prosaic; from a moment of personal clarity to an understanding of how to change a lightbulb and everything in between! As long as it’s true, happened to you and can tell it in under 5 minutes we’d love to hear it.
Tell your story in front of a friendly audience or just watch. You can sign up on the night and everyone is welcome from experienced storytellers to absolute beginners!

We kick off our festival film programme with a remarkable film by Armando Iannucci 'The Personal History of David Copperfield' (PG) on sun 9 Feb at Lunesdale Hall. A fresh, funny, and utterly charming spin on Dickens' classic novel. Starring Dev Patel, Tilda Swinton, Hugh Laurie, Peter Capaldi and Ben Whishaw.

Because it's the first in the programme, we've invited film expert Dr Zoe Crombie to open the event at 6.45PM with a talk on our theme 'Made in Britain' followed by an audience Q&A. Doors open at 6.15PM to allow people to buy a drink from the bar and grab a seat; the film screening will begin at approx 7.30PM. Tickets are just £4 for adults, with under-18s admitted FREE (children must be accompanied). To be certain of securing a seat, please book tickets online at http://illuminate.kirkbylonsdale.org. Festival passholders can see the film for free by simply showing their passes at the door (but it's still best to book your free place online :-))

In just over a week, we'll be launching Illuminate: Festival of Ideas right here in Kirkby Lonsdale.

The first performance is scheduled for Sat 8 Feb at 2.30pm in St Mary's Church - and we simply can't recommend it enough! Prepare to be amazed and amused in equal measure as The Great Baldini takes to the stage to exercise his powers of prestidigitation!

Suitable for everyone, it's a show that is definitely among our festival favourites - don't miss out. Tickets cost just £12 for adults and £8 for children (£32 family ticket). Plenty of photo opps available after the show.

Encore Opera last night at St Mary's. An absolutely superb evening of music by a group of incredibly talented performers. Thanks to everyone who came out in the cold to support us and share in a really special experience. Our next show is on Sunday 1 December when we're welcoming Mrs Claus to St Mary's for a cosy afternoon of family fun around the Christmas tree. The last event before Christmas is a relaxed evening of live music, wine and song 'Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree' on Friday 13 December.
