Radio Silence Where rock meets literature. This magazine is created for you and supported by you. Lately there have been some generous responses to our work.

In each monthly digital volume, you’ll find a thoughtful selection of writing from a line-up of literary and musical talent, along with bonus media and illustrations. You'll encounter no advertisements or commercials—Radio Silence is a place to get away from that noise and find engaging, accessible, smart writing for fans of music and literature. We won a 2015 Pushcart Prize; Library Journal named

us one of the ten best new magazines in the country; and Greil Marcus recently reviewed us in The Believer: “This Bay Area journal is something people have been waiting for for fifty years: writing in, through, beside, around, and about music, where the first criterion is writing.”

Our Story

Update: We aren’t publishing any longer, but our print issues are still available for sale, and we will soon be launching a new iteration of Radio Silence as a physical place in Oakland, California, called North Light—a bar, cafe, bookstore, and record store. Also, we continue to partner with Lemony Snicket on the monthly Silent Reading Party in San Francisco. A note from days past: Lately there have been some generous responses to our work. We won a 2015 Pushcart Prize; Library Journal named us one of the ten best new magazines in the country; and Greil Marcus recently reviewed us in The Believer: “This Bay Area journal is something people have been waiting for for fifty years: writing in, through, beside, around, and about music, where the first criterion is writing.”
