Next week, after a restful holiday with family and friends, I'll be back in the flower studio. So looking forward to working on our winter meadow wreaths and tea tin centerpieces for you!
Until then, blessings as you prepare for and enjoy your own Thanksgiving holiday. May it be filled with your favorite foods, much laughter, and deep conversations shared with the people you love.

Now is the time to go out and harvest your lunaria! It takes patience to peel every single pod and uncover the lovely silvery layer inside, but so worth the effort.
Save seeds and scatter them now.
You'll see new plants next summer, with blooms and seed pods the following year.
Lunaria puts all it's short life's energy into making thousands of seeds, then the two-year process starts again.
For a continuous harvest of lunaria, scatter seeds two consecutive years. It likes the wild places, between the back of the garage and the fence, along the edge of the forest, in the ditch near the road, in the overgrown garden.
Are you local and need seeds? Let me know.

Kiss-me-over-the-garden-gate. Also known as persicria orientalis (by those with a scientfic flair), lady's fingers and princess feathers. Once one of the most popular flowers in a cottage garden, all the rage for a good three hundred years in europe then here in the states and dearly loved by the Victorians, now so uncommon that I'd never seen it in person until I started seeds and watched it grow in my own garden.
Give me a flower with a poetical name any day. And if it's vibrant pink and dances in the slightest breeze, all the better.
And because I'm a bit poetical myself, I planted it right next to the cutting flower garden gate.
This beauty is known to grow seven to ten feet tall in just one season. Mine hasn't towered over the garden gate yet, but that may be because I keep harvesting it for use in flower gatherings.
I like to grow strange things; flowers and seed pods and foliage that maybe you've never seen. And the best of what's blooming in my strange and wonderful little garden goes out to our flower subscribers each week.
So if you'd like to sign up for a 2023 flower subscription, sales open in our online flower shop on August 22 at 9 a.m. Check back here in two weeks if unique, unexpected flowers are as important to you as they are to me.
Also, curious minds must know: have you ever grown kiss-me-over-the-garden-gate? Or had the luck to see it blooming somewhere?

Here's another reel for you. This time the background music is the sweet tinkling of my neighbor's wind chimes. Nothing sounds like summer to me more than birdsong and wind chimes.
This past weekend, I had the pleasure to create a flower crown for a beautiful mother-to-be. This crown features strawflowers, tufted echinacea pods, sedum, celosia, lisianthus, hydrangea and more. Thank you, friend, for the immense privilege to help celebrate new life with flowers from our gardens.
