In the lead-up to Mikelangelo’s Club Cohen: A Nightclub of the Afterlife, we’ve been diving deep into the world and life of Leonard Cohen—undoubtedly one of the most prominent artists of our time.

For Mikelangelo, his journey with Cohen began at 19 when he stumbled upon Songs of Love and Hate. He recalls, “…I knew nothing of Cohen at the time, it was the title that got me. From the moment i put the needle on the record and heard the start of the first song, Avalanche, a whole new landscape opened up in my imagination, wild, dramatic, scary and beautiful. I stepped inside and walked through Cohen’s world, and on some fundamental level, his songs made sense of my childhood, and the intensity of my young adulthood. I’m forever grateful to Leonard, because he helped me find my own voice as a songwriter, and now, over 30 years later, his work continues to inspire me, along with countless others.”

Get ready to step into Cohen’s world, as Mikelangelo and an incredible lineup of musicians bring his poetic legacy to life. Join us for Club Cohen this Friday.

Canberra, it’s been real.

As we hit the final weeks of The Vault, we’re going out in style—no big speeches, just a lineup that speaks for itself.

We’re celebrating everything that makes Canberra great—its music, its performers, its people. From Peking Duk’s homecoming shows to our last techno rave with Township Rebellion, and a trip down memory lane with One Night in Heaven, we’re honouring the spirit of this city.

We’re bringing Canberra together—celebrating the best in ACT music on December 3, showcasing the finest in local design with the UnderCurrent Market on November 22, and a collection of voices coming together to celebrate the life of Leonard Cohen this Friday.

It’s been an epic run, so let’s make these last moments count.

Head to our website for the final program of events.

See you for one last dance in The Vault. 💥

Welcome to Club Cohen: Nightclub of the Afterlife.

On the 8th anniversary of Leonard Cohen's passing, Mikelangelo presents an unforgettable celebration of one of the greatest musical poets of our time.

On Friday, 8 November, The Vault transforms into a nightclub of the afterlife, where the realms of the living and the dead collide in a joyous, soulful celebration of Leonard Cohen's musical legacy.

Hosted by Mikelangelo, this one-of-a-kind live show brings Cohen’s timeless songs back to life with The Band of Mercy and a stellar line-up of special guests: Canberra legends Shortis & Simpson, Fred Smith, Alice Cottee, Tom Woodward, Tracy Bourne, and introducing the talents of Peter Campbell, Gemma Clare, and Lily Acheson.

Expect moody, late-night grooves from classics like I'm Your Man, Tower of Song, Dance Me to the End of Love, and more. With sultry, club-style reworkings of Suzanne, Bird On A Wire, Famous Blue Raincoat, and Hallelujah, this is your chance to get lost on "boogie street."

Ready to see The Vault transform into a gallery? Cruel Optimism: A Q***r Pavilion for the is taking over The Vault this week!

Curated by Christian Sirois, this Q***r Pavilion is more than just an exhibition—it’s an exploration of liminal identities, world-building, and cryptic geographies. As an academic, curator, and arts worker, Sirois’ work fuses scientific and creative approaches, focusing on innovative conservation and documentation methods. Now, as part of the Canberra Art Biennale, he’s bringing his expertise to the Q***r Pavilion with Cruel Optimism.

Featuring works by artists Tony Albert, Nathan Beard, Rat Bedlington, Gemma Brown, Jenna (Mayilema) Lee, Hamish Wiseman, Isaac Kairouz, Shamen Suku. Cruel Optimism delves deep into Q***r realities, drawing on Lauren Berlant’s concept of Cruel Optimism (2011), this exhibition investigates what knowledge can be produced through Q***r-to-Q***r dialogue and relational exchanges. It questions whether acceptance is a sufficient response to oppression or if more profound actions are needed to address systemic inequalities.

Get ready for symposiums, workshops, and more. Highlights include a Q***r Curators Symposium, a Q&A with multi-hyphenate creative Christopher McCrory, and the Gay Clay ceramics workshop by Annie Parnell.
