Over the weekend the BGF class completed their 2 - Run For The Money Shootout events as we finished up the final round race from April 21st between Kelly Rhead and Frank Kuhns on Saturday and raced the May Madness shootout on Sunday.

The NJBA Rulebook states that when there is an incomplete race, the boat with the quickest ET of the last round is the Winner and the Runner-up with the second quickest ET. With that being said, NJBA awarded Kelly Rhead the Winner of the April race and Frank Kuhns the Runner-up and rewarded both drivers with purse money, points and trophies.

For the BGF Shootout Event, even though the same rules applied, and Kelly could have walked away with $2500.00 more in his pocket, along with the points he talked with Frank and they both agreed to race for it. During Saturday's second round of qualifying both guys were lined up side by side and Frank got his first BGF win with a 5.97 et @ 138.32 mph over Kelly's 6.13 et @131.36 mph. I have to say, Kelly Rhead you are a true professional sportsman and competitor for agreeing to run the race. AND to top it off, Kelly gave the NJBA Winner's Trophy to Frank at the end of the day. What an exciting and memorable moment for Frank. Congratulations to you both!!!

Our class is always an interesting one on who is left standing at the end of the day. We say that you cannot be intimidated by your opponent as the boat has to start first and Sunday's May Madness oh how it was.

We started out on Saturday with 9 boats set up to race on Sunday but at the end of the day we were down to 6. 3 boats with parts failure not able to compete. As Sunday rolls around going into the final round we have 2 boats that won't start and 1 red light with their opponents taking the wins and in the final round we have Jeff Martin up against Jason Silva with Jason going red and still running 6.10 et @ 138.39 mph with Jeff Martin taking the win with a 7.23 et @ 124.29 mph. Congratulations to Jeff Martin and Westerfield Motorsports along with Jason Silva and team.

We are thankful and grateful for the help and support of L&H Concrete, South Bay Mazda, Oxnard Mazda, Double Tree Hotel, KC Steakhouse & Wes Gray.

After 2 events this is our current Run for the Money Points -
Jeff Martin - 405
Frank Kuhns - 400
Kelly Rhead - 350
Shane Westerfield - 320
Jason Silva -300
Craig Lucas - 300
Nick Childers - 250
Joe Martin - 200
Tony Scarlata - 200
Ian Sirrs - 100
Jim Van Kampen - 100
Kyle Cannon - 100

Our next event with be held in Dexter, OR on July 12-14 with the CDBA group as we will be participating in the "Kyle Cannon Blown Gas Flat Shootout". This is going to be a very special event as we hope to see more BGF boats out there as last year there were 9 boats to continue what Kyle had started last year. More information to follow.

We also cannot go without saying that we are sorry for the loss of another great racer, Bill Erkelen. Prayers to his wife, family and friends. 🙏🙏

On April 21st the Drag Boat Racing community lost a wonderful person, Kyle Cannon. These incredible drawings done by Wes Gray were his way of showing is condolences and support to his wife Cheryl, his entire family and friends. These drawings were done with no intention of making them available for sale. For those that know of Wes' work every now and then you will see that he will offer some of the proceeds of one of his drawings to his local animal shelter to help cover the costs that they may need. After talking with Cheryl she said that Animal Shelters are something that she and Kyle supported and if there are people out there that would like to support Wes' time, talent and for a good cause then for him to go ahead and sell the drawings. We have seen that there are numerous people that would like a drawing, so please reach out to Wes by IM and he will answer any of your questions. Thank you.

Well the last race of the year, the World Finals, were held in Chandler, Arizona at Wild Horse Park. It was one of the largest races of the year as our Blown Gas Flat class had 13 boats entered with 11 competing on Sunday. It was a crazy day of racing as the first round saw every round except for the single by Kelly Rhead have a "Red Light". Is that nuts or what?? As the day went on it was down to the two final contenders that seemed to be in the final round quite a bit this year, Kelly Rhead and Jeff Martin. Kelly ran a 5.92 [email protected] mph to Jeff Martins red light which gave the win to Kelly. Congratulations to our finalists and to everyone that competed in this event.

For this event we would like to thank all of the BGF Participants that contributed extra money to go towards the purse, Krazy Kolors, Billy B Boat & RV Storage, O'Reilly Auto Parts, Maxima Racing Oils, F&L Fuel, & Menkens V-Drives.

Also, we would like to thank all of our BGF sponsors for their continued support for the entire year.

O'Reilly Auto Parts, Maxima Racing Oils, DoubleTree Hotel, KC Steakhouse, Menkens V-Drives, Rex & Traci Childers and Wes Gray - Cool Auto Art.

For all of the BGF racers that are going to Dexter, OR. Tim Tregoning, CDBA's Commodore has asked that I pass along this information.

All drivers meetings are mandatory for the days you are running and that includes Friday's Test & Tune if you are going to participate on Friday. Meetings are at 8:00 a.m. If you will not be able to make the drivers meetings but plan to run that day, you will need to contact Tim Tregoning either by email [email protected] or his cell is (541) 901-9431 to make alternate plans.

In BGF, blower restraints are not required for the roots blowers. Only the screw PSI's & Wipples. It's on page 62 of their rule book if anyone needs to look it up to verify.

Tech Inspection - you will receive a bright green tech sheet at registration to complete. That is the one that you will need to turn in. It will need to be turned in by the driver at registration. Registration will give the driver his arm band when it gets turned it. The online tech sheet on their website cdbaracing.com/racerforms is your reference to double check and be prepared.

If you have any further questions, please contact Tim as we want everyone to have a good time.

Drive safe and see you all soon. Thank you.
