Loowatt Ltd. A toilet system for today and tomorrow. Our toilet system saves water and produces energy, the opposite of today’s toilet status quo.

Quick to set up, and simple to service and operate, the Loowatt system is a sustainable, closed-loop, waste treatment solution. We work with communities around the world who do not have access to safe sanitation, as well as with the eco-tourism and events sectors in the UK. Applications:

Benefits:

The System:
- A liner replaces the function of water within the toilet bowl, drawing waste down and out of the bowl with each flush
- The waste is securely sealed within a barrel below the toilet, when full the barrel is replaced
- Full barrels can be passed through an anaerobic digester to convert waste into biogas or natural fertilizer, or transported to a local waste processing facility. Having gained support from the InnovationRCA Incubator in 2010, we have built an impressive multidisciplinary network of collaborators, and won a Grand Challenges Explorations grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2011 to “create the next generation of sanitation technologies.”

About this role
We are seeking an experienced Chief Commercial Officer with a strong track record to lead the next
stage of exponential growth, as the company moves to scale in its home and international markets.
This will encompass increasing unit sales and recurring revenues through a greatly expanded sales
pipeline, optimising routes to market, developing strategic partnerships, and building strong
customer delivery capability, both in the UK and internationally.
Key Outcomes
• Achieving approved sales growth targets for the UK and international markets in 2022
• Developing the current strategic sales plan to achieve growth targets for 2023-2025
• Sales support and commercial infrastructure that supports sales growth with high quality
customer service
• Robust, multi-channel sales organisation that optimises opportunities in target markets
Responsibilities:
• Implement and develop progressive commercial programmes that deliver the 3-year sales
growth plan determined by the LW board
• Define, iterate and own commercial strategy based on in-depth understanding of our key
target markets and customer segments
• Lead and develop the commercial team responsible for marketing and sales delivery, whilst
instilling values and behaviour consistent with the company’s objectives and culture
• Expand sales and service channels/partners to support growth including a successful UK
strategy for replication in overseas markets
• Develop robust commercial systems that support growth and high customer satisfaction
• Own responsibility of commercial outcomes and lead key contract negotiations
Experience:
• Senior executive commercial experience with P&L responsibility 5 yrs+
• Proven success in leading substantial sales growth in multi-channel B2B sales businesses
• Proven contracting success in B2B sales
• Work in growth-stage, entrepreneurial, innovative businesses
• Financial acumen including capabilities for analysis of service and asset finance models
• International sales experience including business to business and business to government
• Business degree or equivalent
Personal characteristics:
• Strong sense of commercial urgency, ownership of targets, and drive to achieve results
• Reliable, measured and frank, with a high degree of integrity
• A careful listener who is also forthcoming and assertive
• Self-starter, dogged and flexible approach to work
• Seasoned manager with growth mindset and ability to empower and inspire others
• Persistent belief in Loowatt’s mission to combine commercial success with positive social
and environmental impacts

South Africa is a focus market for Loowatt which is looking to appoint a Business
Development Manager (based in or around Cape Town, Durban or Johannesburg) to build
on service implementations currently in progress and develop expanded opportunities for
continuing sales growth in new communities/cities in SA. This is a progressive opportunity
for a dynamic self-starter (ideally with commercial WASH project/services experience) who
is keen to make large-scale social impact by working with government stakeholders,
partners and communities to develop a central role for Loowatt in the off-grid toilet sector
in SA. It is also a career development opportunity, with the successful candidate in the
running for expanded responsibilities in other emerging markets, subject to success in SA.
Key Outcomes
• Deliver on sales growth targets for Home toilet systems in SA
• Ensure the pilot project already secured and the 2nd one planned for 2022 are
successful and turn into expanded rollouts in 2023
• Build B2B commercial partnerships that provide high quality services delivery
• Develop effective partnerships with local/central government institutions, utilities
and private sector actors that result in strong support for LW technology solutions
• Deliver a data-driven strategic sales/commercial plan for LW in SA
Key Responsibilities
• Continue to develop customer relationships and sales pipelines within existing
projects in South Africa and the Philippines
• Develop B2B partnerships with local stakeholders across value chain (from regulators
to service providers)
• Engage with implementations to gain a sound understanding of B2C services model
• Develop strategies for securing new business opportunities and routes to market in
urban sanitation
• Support market development including access-to-finance for EM customers
• Drive stakeholder engagement, including customer and donor engagement, through
briefings, meetings & seminars, accompanied by structured follow up
• Develop effective senior-level relationships with appropriate government agencies,
utilities and private sector companies
• Support key customers and stakeholders with project fundraising and grant
management
• Maintain accurate, current CRM database and associated strategies
• Support Loowatt’s commercial operations team on project implementation
• Attend and present at key global WASH conferences and build contact network
Skills Experience:
• 5+ yrs in international ‘ecosystem’ sales (of products that include service models)
• Relevant sector experience (in emerging markets, sanitation sector, or similar e.g.,
energy, water, financial inclusion, etc)
• Success in submitting proposals for funding and/or building commercial and strategic
partnerships
• Proven ability to initiate and deliver project work effectively with a wide variety of
partners and disciplines, with minimum supervision
• Contract development & negotiation for B2B/B2G sector
• High level of presentation skills
• Financial acumen – ability to assess business and service models
• Appropriate university degree (science, technology or business-based), or equivalent
commercial experience
Personal characteristics:
• Reliable with high degree of integrity
• An engaging communicator
• Self-starter and team player
• Social conscience; motivated by improving the lives of disadvantaged communities
• Possesses gravitas and knows how to apply it
