If you are a resident of the Tampa bay area and have not been to the island of Egmont key, in the middle of tampa bay. It's only a short ferry ride from Fort Desotos bay pier to an island full of history and beautiful pristine beaches. Makes for a beautiful stay-cation trip. This island is slowly disappearing and it wont be around probably in the next 100 years or less. The island has ruins of old forts you can venture in and climb on. It was part of the trail of tears, part of the Spanish American war, part of the civil war, was also a quarantine island for yellow fever decades ago and so much more.
