Mermaid's Tears Music Festival to Showcase Island Talent at Wood Islands Lighthouse Park on July 22

This summer’s Mermaid Tears Sea Glass Festival at Wood Islands Lighthouse Park on Prince Edward Island will take on a new twist with the addition of the Mermaid's Tears Music Festival under the big top on Sunday, July 22. "The Wood Islands Lighthouse is a heritage that we highly value in our commu

nity, a symbol of welcome, hope and safe haven," says Mermaid’s Tears Music Festival producer Wendy Jones. "This fundraiser will enable us to keep the lighthouse and park safe, beautiful, in good repair and open to the public." Except for Halifax’s bluesy country/folk singer/songwriter Mike Trask (formerly of Mud Hill), the Festival's line-up consists entirely of award-winning PEI performers who will present a wide variety of music genres including Indie, Traditional, Folk, Country and classic Rock.

“We'll kick off the Festival with the region's favorite Rock, Country and Traditional artists Norman Stewart, Jolee Patkai, Lester Stubbert and Kelley Mooney hitting the stage between 1 and 3:30 pm,” Jones says. “The queen of PEI's Jazz and Celtic scene, Teresa Doyle will perform from 3:30 to 4:30 pm then Chas Guay will present his cool jazz and folk music from 4:30 to 5:30...with Todd MacLean's hot saxophone being highlighted too," Jones says. "We've got the Island's Country music star Meaghan Blanchard entertaining during the dinner hour and from 6:30 to 7:30 Mike Trask warms up the audience for the finale - the smoking hot Bad Habits Blues Band who will perform from 7:30 to 9 pm.”

The Wood Islands and Area Development Corporation will host an all-day barbecue and the PEI Brewing Company is sponsoring a beverage area. The Mermaid’s Tears Music Festival runs from 1 to 9 pm at Wood Islands Lighthouse Park on July 22. At the gate you'll pay $15 per person or just $50 for a carload of four. Some seating will be provided but bring lawn chairs to be sure of a place to sit. The Lighthouse Park is within walking distance of the Northumberland Ferry Terminal in Wood Islands so it's possible for walk-on ferry traffic to come over for the day and enjoy the music. Pick up advance tickets at the Wood Islands Lighthouse (turn left just before you reach the toll booths at the Northumberland Ferry Corporation's Wood Islands Terminal) or at Plough the Waves Community Centre in Wood Islands. To order by telephone call 962-3110 or 962-3761. Tickets are also available at The Store in Belle River.
