Happy New Year!!
More to come on that but I want to take a moment to acknowledge the San Francisco Flower Market on 6th and Brannan Street. It has officially closed its doors on December 27, 2024 to move to a new location that was built exclusively for them.
The San Francisco Flower market started in 1912 by immigrants. During the last 112 years, It has endured 7 moves to various locations in the city. The last move which occurred around 1956 was at 6th and Brannan until just a few days ago.
My first introduction to this new world was around 1998 when I went on a floral R.O.P. class trip headed by the wonderful floral teacher, Mrs. Gibson. I remember being in awe seeing all the flowers all around me. The floral racks and buckets were filled to the brim with an array of colors, smells and a variety's of flowers. It was breathtaking and I remember thinking i want to be a part of this industry. With all its ups and downs, It has been a rewarding profession right after my nursing degree. I have no regrets.
It look forward shopping at the new facility which is located at 901 16th Street in the Protrero Hill neighborhood. It will be new and shiny and bright with familiar faces and some new ones mixed in. Here's to 2025 and all the beautiful flowers to be made by me and many other dedicated florist.
