I do a lot of online corporate wine tastings but sometimes it’s also great to do them in person - especially when you have the right partners to make them magic.

Business and wine event this week organised at Boque auf Croque with a Piedmontese wine and food theme. Wines chosen from Borgo Maragliano and Marchesi di Barolo, and delicious catering supplied by Ristorante I Martinelli.

Last week's The Italian Show : an event bringing the best of Italian food and wine under one roof. I spent most of the time in the Enoteca area were Corinna Siena animated three wine and food sessions with her quintessential Sicilian style 🤩 apart from a moment when I spoke in a panel about the trends on wine consumption and pizza in Germany. There were some really excellent products (the pesto was to die for!). Thanks for everyone who made it out to Eisbach Studios to take part.

This is what I love doing : bringing people together with wine. Whether it’s wine drinkers for tastings of different labels, or wine professionals looking for new wine producers for their portfolio, making connections is what makes me happy.

Friday night I hosted 20 women at the Blue Heron Wine Shop for a summer tasting. We explored a Cremant and a Mcc, a white and then a rose. We took a moment to really think about what we were smelling and tasting and then answered the most important question - do I like it? I sold out of most so they definitely did ☺️

It was time for Vernaccia di San Gimignano to take the limelight yesterday in Munich. Through two masterclasses presented by Christoph Raffelt, wine professionals and press got to experience the diversity of this, one of Italy’s oldest wines. Between the masterclasses and free tasting 66 labels were available to explore.

A few highlights from Jan
🤩 Two amazing trips to Italy including a couple of days in Venice, I’d forgotten just how special a city it is
🤩hosting my first ever wine tasting for total strangers at the shop. They left a review saying it was truly unforgettable so I guess I did a good job 😜I definitely had fun anyway (getting over my fear of speaking in public and imposter syndrome!)
🤩Organising the sixth edition of the Slow Wine event in Munich which was attended by over 300 people. Masterclasses were jammed and the feedback on the quality and variety of wineries was amazing
🤩 a dinner with strangers (apart from 2!) thanks to a post on my International wine lovers in Munich Community on FB. Wine is how I got to meet most people in each city I’ve lived so it was special to see connections and friendships start from this community I’ve been fostering more intentionally for the past few months 😍
🥶most of the time it’s been cold and snowy but oh so beautiful…

Thank you January. Can’t wait to see what’s coming up in Feb 🤩

I think it's been pretty clear that 2023 was not a good year in wine. Not sure I should be celebrating that the queen of wine herself has confirmed what I think everyone knows.

Add to that the clear brain drain the industry has seen. So many of the smart people who were part of the events I organised or attended in the past seem to have moved on..

The question now is how will the wine industry react? And then there were 27.... Since releasing the first list of participating wineries at SLOW WINE MüNCHEN 2024 on Monday, we already have another 5 to join the event taking us up to 27 wineries from just about every corner of Italy!

Etwas, auf das man sich in diesem langen Winter freuen kann! Ich habe gerade meine Zugtickets für den Besuch der Slow Wine Fair in Bologna gebucht und bin nun dabei, die Liste der VIP-Einkäufer, die ich dorthin mitnehme, zu schließen...

Why don’t we see more British wine around? 🇬🇧

Luckily our friend from .sparkling popped over for dinner on Friday and brought us two bottles from their selection :

1️⃣Chapel Down Brut Rosé
2️⃣Bolney Estate Blanc de blancs Brut

Last year they started importing wine from five British producers and are looking to expand their portfolio to include another couple next year. After waiting months and battling with bureaucracy (thanks Brexit!) to get these wines imported they’re doing an amazing job of promoting best of british in sparkling wines.

Chapel down is the largest winery in the UK with almost 400 hectares across various regions in the south of the Uk to produce 2m bottles.

Bolney estate is one of the UK’s oldest wineries (perhaps even the oldest) and celebrated it’s 50 year anniversary last year 🥳.

Both really nice wines although the fruitiness of the rosé went down particularly well 😉
