I am excited to announce that I will soon be unveiling my new professional development workshop, Tricks of the Trade: Exploring the Art and Science of Presentations through Magic and Stagecraft. The first showcase will be in mid-October. Stay tuned for more details, which I will release soon!

If we count day one of freshman engineering at Purdue as the start of my career in engineering, then I have been an engineer for 24 years, but considering performance magic, I have been a magician for nearly my entire life. And as an engineer, I attribute 100% of my success and career satisfaction to magic, as it taught me the most vital skill that simply isn't sufficiently taught in school: the ability to effectively communicate.

If you have ever seen me perform magic in a show or have seen me give a technical presentation on digital signal processing, you might be surprised to find how similar the two presentations look and sound. Naturally the content is different, but my mannerisms, body language, attitude, and the general approaches that I take to speak TO my audiences rather than AT them are all identical.

I am excited! This Saturday, I will be performing magic and mentalism at the Promise Gala for the Knoxville, TN chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). It’s a great organization, and while my magic might incorporate science fiction, JDRF directly helps fund real scientific research (science fact!) towards combating Type I diabetes and helping those who suffer from it. They are the real magic!

The annual JDRF Promise Gala brings together the Type 1 diabetes community for an unforgettable evening featuring an expansive silent auction, one-of-a-kind live auction, seated dinner, live entertainment, and a night of fundraising all in support of JDRF.

Chad Lau, Ph.D. is a Digital Signal Processing Analyst/Wireless Communications Electrical Engineer and Biomedical Engineer/Neuroscientist who specializes in redesigning reality, making the impossible happen through the power of SCIENCE...(fiction). Prepare to embark on a journey through your own imaginations into a world filled with magical pseudo-science. No mind will be left unread. Physics will be utterly defied. The only thing truly impossible...is to not have a great time.

Regardless of whether you are planning a corporate event, wedding, fundraiser, or any other type of special event, Chad’s warm, light-hearted personality combined with his unique approach to magic is sure to make your event truly memorable. As a current research scientist for a Fortune 500 company on Florida’s Space Coast, Chad is intimately familiar with corporate culture, making him very relatable to any corporate audience. He is ready and happy to highlight any business/promotional/inspirational theme to create an unforgettable experience.

Having devoted ten years to study at Purdue University, earning a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, a Master's in Biomedical Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Chad is a huge proponent of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. Towards this end, Chad has visited numerous K-12 schools in both Indiana and Florida with his with Mathemagic program, in which he demonstrates how simple concepts in mathematics can be used in multiple applications, including science, engineering, and magic. He has also regularly served as a motivational speaker to university students from around the state of Florida with respect to using one's passions to fuel one's career. Chad completely attributes years of performing magic to his success as a practicing engineer -- his communications and presentational skills have been honed by decades of performing. He loves sharing the ‘secrets’ of engaging audiences learned along the way, and would love to help you and your clients/students learn how to bring out the best in themselves.
