Friends, Beavercreek Pizza Dive will be closed tomorrow due to necessary repairs, and thus, we will not have our pizza run this month.

In the interim, please swing by BPD when they reopen and show them some support! We'll see you the last Wednesday in July!

Tuesday 27 June - CLOSED
Wednesday 28 June - CLOSED

For those that weren't aware, we've been working through the unfortunate circumstance of our air conditioning unit breaking down. With the heat and humidity rising, we've made the decision to close for a few days for the safety of our team. It gets pretty hot in the kitchen with the pizza ovens on, so we will be closed until we can properly cool the store. Our landlord should have the new system fully installed Wednesday Night and we are planning to re-open on Thursday. Thanks to all of our awesome customers for your understanding!

Yesterday's Fairborn Flyer 15K marked the final race of 2022 and what I had stated would be our last event, at least for a year. It was beyond touching how many reached out and shared their stories about what ARP has meant to them, humbling to be honest.

I started ARP because I had a vision for a few great races in the area, I certainly didn't set out to create a community. However, I accidentally created a community which is so much better than any of the events. The events are merely a component of that community but the community will go on with or without the races so don't fret.

I've a tremendous amount of soul-searching to do over the coming year. I will miss the events for sure while I figure what the road ahead looks like. In the interim I am excited to spend more time with Ashley and Hunter, I owe it to them both.

You all know where to find me and expect to still see posts on social.

In 2019 I met a woman by the name of Mandy Shoopman. We crossed paths when she was looking for some help organizing a race to raise funds for the victims of the 2019 tornadoes. That fall she helped me out at the Gem City Classic. At all but one event since she has helped me. More times than we probably both care to count we've met up at 0230 on race day to setup and she's always the last one there with me long after everyone is gone.

I cannot put into words how thankful I am for the help Mandy has provided. She has been ol' faithful. Thanks for everything Mandy, you've been a savior time and time again and have made ARP events what they are. The world needs more Mandy's...

Friends, before this weekend's Fairborn Flyer 15K I wanted to share a brief note.

I have spoken with many of you all this past year about the future of ARP and whether or not there will be races in 2023. I will not mince words, I don't think I will be producing them next year. I'm unsure if that means I will be selling the races (happy to talk to anyone interested in purchasing the races/ARP), if it's the end of ARP, or just a strategic pause. I honestly do not know.

For five years I have run ARP singlehandedly all while having another full time job, run some 15,000 miles of my own, went back to grad school, got married, had a child, been on five different boards, and have had various other commitments mixed in. All of that through a pandemic no less. I am simply tired at this point. Thus, I would like to make 2023 about catching my breath, spending time with my wife and son, and refocusing my energies to see what life is telling me is next.

I cannot thank enough the thousands upon thousands of runners who have participated in an ARP event since I launched the company five years ago. I have learned so much from you all and I have made relationships that have changed the fabric of who I am. For that I am indebted to you all. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your journeys, it has been an immense privilege. You all also helped raise nearly $30K for local charities through our events these past five years, something you all should be so proud of.

I'm still here, still running, and for those who know me well, still looking at and photographing birds. Thanks again, it has been hella fun. Stay in touch.

I'll see y'all Saturday!

Regards,

Been a tad busy with family, school, and life, but two things...

1 week away to the final race of the season (email will come out Wednesday).

And...tomorrow I'm racing the NYC Marathon. It's going to be 74* by the time I finish so I've decided to go out a fair bit slower and want to just have fun. Follow along if you'd like with the NYC Marathon app, bib #487! Wanted to wear a singlet that reminded me it's not that serious and it's about fun.

Thanks for all the support, y'all rock.

It's fall y'all!

Out: Mosquitos. Muggy workouts. Showering 2x a day. Drinking straight from the hose and still feeling dehydrated. Squishy shoes after long runs. An unforgiving sun.

In: Corn mazes. Pleasant runs followed by apple cider. Watching leaves fall as you run by. Pumpkins & PRs!

What's your favorite thing about fall?

We had a lot of fun today at the Air Force Marathon because it is such a fantastic event.

ARP Elites performed well! Christina Johnston and Irene Musgrove were 2nd and 28th OAFs in the half, Jake McCubbin and Chris Lane were 6th and 32nd OAMs in the half, and ARP founder Brandon Hough was 1st OAM in the 10K.

Insanely muggy today but where we're from heat and humidity is called the poor man's altitude! And that weather didn't stop y'all from laying down some blistering times at another great Historic Germantown 8K. Huge thanks to the City of Germantown and their Police and Public Works for making the race safe! And to the The Historical Society of Germantown and Miamisburg HS XC for volunteering.

Also, our apologies, the clock at the finish was a minute off for the first few finishers. Jason Salyer of Tipo City won in a time of 24:36 and Kaylee Wessel of Cincinnati was the first female in 28:45.

We flirted with disaster today and no one knew!!!

I went to bed at 11pm with the alarm set for 1:20am (comes with the job). At 2:40am my wife wakes me up frantically. My alarm hadn't gone off and she just happened to wake up to pump. I quickly check my phone...dead. How? I plugged it in! Well, for the first time ever it came out of the wall outlet and hadn't charged.

Thankfully with enough experience I know to do all prep the night before. Truck was ready to set the course. Trailer was fully packed. Outfit was even laid out. It took less than 3' to exit the house and get on the road. The kicker was my wingman had a very last minute scheduling conflict yesterday afternoon so I was flying solo no less for setup. In 3 hours I set up the 1M kids' run, marked the entire 5K course, got packet pickup together, setup the start/finish and the post-race food... Never a doubt... 👀

It always works out and today ultimately went perfect. I'm just so glad Ashley woke up to pump. 8 years producing races and that has never happened to me before even though I've had that nightmare dozens of times. Going forward my phone won't be the only alarm set!

Thanks everyone for coming out, there were some amazing efforts today, you all inspire me. Hoping to have the rest of the pics available by the end of the weekend, we'll post when they're ready! Hope to see everyone at the Historic Germantown 8K (raceGermantown.com)

Thought I could make it home before the storm hit, ended up being wrong by a mile. I have never felt straight line winds like that, water drops hit so hard, and lightning so close. Just 3/4 mile from home I hid under the first porch I came across and thankfully my wife rescued me.

Be safe out there folks. This week is extremely hot, so please hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

Spring weather always keeps you on your toes. This week we got a pretty unexpected snow. It was a good reminder that if you're picky about the weather you work out in, you're eventually in for a tough go when the weather on race day isn't nice either. Remember, you can't control the weather but you can control whether you lace up and get out the door.

02/04/2022

Hey everyone,

I made a really tough decision and decided to cancel the Yellow Springs 5 Miler. I had the permit in, insurance pulled, registration open, shirts/medals designed, had already made some awards, and even had ordered wildflower seeds for every participant...but something was wrong.

When I chose that date with the Village of Yellow Springs last year, things were different. A few months later my wife would get pregnant and I thought it would be no big deal, I was wrong. I paused registration while I talked with the village, event timer, and a few others and ultimately as our son entered the world last week, I decided cancelling was the right decision for me and my family, for Advanced Running, and ultimately for you all as I can not produce a race that I know I will not be giving a full faith effort on. I have already issued refunds to everyone who registered.

ARP has always been a learning experience for me, right in the very name is the word 'project'. It's a living and breathing experiment and unfortunately that does not always mean optimal outcomes. I am not proud to cancel a race a few weeks prior, I think it reflects poorly on my planning and perhaps shows that I had too much confidence in my ability to balance so many life pressures. But I also know that trying to hold the event would reflect an inability to do what is best once I had more clarity and details.

I am truly sorry for this. I hope you all understand. I have wanted to produce a race in YS for years as it is my home and I have run literally every road in and around the village, I love this place. However, a race in YS will have to wait for now. I will tentatively say April 2023. I appreciate your understanding and support beyond words.

Happy running,

Brandon Hough
