Hey ladies and gents! look out here comes our second Artist Recommendation of the year!

WE give you Lettuce!

BIO
"For more than two decades, Lettuce have brought a new vitality to classic funk, matching their smooth and soulful grooves with a hip-hop-inspired urgency and mastery of beat. Now, on their fourth studio album Crush, drummer Adam Deitch, guitarists Adam Smirnoff and Eric Krasno, bassist Erick “Jesus” Coomes, keyboardist Neal Evans, saxophonist Ryan Zoidis, and trumpet players Eric Bloom and Rashawn Ross deepen that sound by channeling the sonic freedom and infectious energy oftheir incendiary live show.

Produced by Lettuce and Co-Produced recorded/mixed by Joel Hamilton at Brooklyn’s Studio G, Crush first came to life on the road, with the band developing new material and testing it out live as they toured. “We’ve all noticed that our music goes into a lot of different directions onstage, and we wanted to capture that in a way that we never really have before,” says Coomes, who names classic psychedelia and ‘90s hip-hop among Lettuce’s key inspirations on
Crush. “It’s definitely more wide-open in terms
style, but it still stays true to the funk.”

The follow-up to 2012’s Fly, Crush finds Lettuce brilliantly infusing their psychedelic and hip-hop sensibilities into bass-heavy funk. With its spidery guitar work and hypnotic beats, “Phyllis” is a delicately sprawling epic that embodies what Deitch refers to as “a chill-hop vibe that’s kind of the flip-side of all that powerful uptempo funk that people might expect from us.” On “Get Greasy,” Lettuce give a nod to the
groove-fueled EDM subgenre known as future funk, building off its highly danceable rhythm with a blissfully loose and horn-laced arrangement. And on “He Made a Woman Out of Me,” guest vocalist Alecia Chakour lends her bluesy growl to a scorching take on Bobbie Gentry’s 1970 country-soul classic.

Whether paying homage to Led Zeppelin on the fiery and guitar-driven “Silverdome” or delivering a deeply riveting and richly textured hip-hop medley with “Oresteia,” Lettuce maneuver through Crush’s kaleidoscopic sound with sophisticated ease and powerful synergy. “More so than any of the records we’ve done before, this album is very much about the improvised grooves and improvised solos,” says Krasno. “Instead of going at it like, ‘Here’s a melody, now here’s a guitar solo, here’s another
melody, here’s a sax solo,’ everyone’s leaning on each other in a way that’s completely unspoken. It’s all of us moving as one unit and creating this new sound together.”

According to Lettuce, that sense of unity and togetherness has much to do with a camaraderie that’s only intensified over the lifespan of the band. Formed in 1992, when several band members attended a summer program at Boston’s Berklee College of Music as teenagers, Lettuce was founded on a shared love of legendary funk artists like Earth, Wind & Fire and Tower of Power. After returning to Berklee
as undergrads in 1994, Lettuce started playing in local clubs and steadily built up a following that soon extended to cities across the country and then throughout the world. Releasing their studio debut Outta Here in 2002 and its follow-up album Rage!in 2009, the band dedicated the coming years to balancing their frequent touring with involvement in a host of other musical endeavors (including Evans and Krasno’s role as founding members of acclaimed soul/jazz trio Soulive).

In recent years, Lettuce have watched their fanbase expand as they’ve hit bigger and bigger stages and earned their name as a can’t-miss festival act. And in making Crush, the band had no trouble harnessing the spirit of their explosive live show. “Some of these shows we’ve played over the past couple years have been so amazing, it’s like you go home a different person,” says Coomes. “I’m sure
remembering those moments in our minds and our hearts helped bring out something special when we were recording these new songs.”

So while Crush offers everything from all-out party jams to headphone-ready journeys into space funk, each track was born from an unabashed joy and love of live performance. “That energy we get when it’s prime time and we’re about to go onstage and we’re just excited beyond belief—that all came out on this new album,” says Deitch. “There’s a feeling that the band is rising, and it’s a really beautiful thing.” www.lettucefunk.com

*This band is incredible and by far one of the tightest an grooviest bands in North America. If you like to dance and enjoy eclictic and funky as f*** jams Lettuce is a must for you to check out!!

Lettuce "Crush" is defiantly a bit of a change from their previous material but dose not disappoint. If you haven't heard the band before take a listen and work your way back. If you already love this group of awesomely funked up dudes then take some time to soak up this wicked record! Sky is the limit with these cats! *

ENJOY!

Here we go ladies and gents the first instalment of the Live Loud Album Review. Enjoy and SHARE! The Nth Power is full of love and tasty jams for your soul!

The Nth Power- LIVE TO BE FREE
“Proving that soul music can be exponentially greater than the sum of its parts, The Nth Power is on a mission to share the light. Formed during an impromptu late-night jam at Jazz Fest 2012 in New Orleans, the relentlessly funky and soulful band believes in music as a higher power tapping into an energy that is simultaneously sexy and spiritual, with songs that will inspire audiences to dance, groove, make love or just stand there with goose bumps.
The quartet hails from diverse musical backgrounds, races and creeds. Female powerhouse Nikki Glaspie was Beyonce’s world-touring drummer for five years before she joined Ivan Nevilles New Orleans funk outfit, Dumpstaphunk. Bassist Nate Edgar of Groovechild and John Browns Body perfectly compliments singer and guitarist Nick Cassarino who came from the Jennifer Hartswick Band and toured with Big Daddy Kane. Finally rounding off the ensemble is the newest and youngest member, Courtney J Mell Smith who brings his soulful vocals and keyboard abilities to the table.” The Nth Power. www.thenthpowermusic.com

In this LIVE record The Nth power strays away from the typical separation of studio and stage to bring us a fantastically put together 10-track album. The Nth Power is a soul powerhouse filled with funky jams, pure musicianship, and spirituality you can’t help be attracted to and strive to exemplify.
Guitarist and lead vocalist Nick Cassarino brings passion and soul drawing in listeners to explore the freedom within music and breaking through the norm of our everyday. The soulfully jazzy and elegant organ and synth fills played by Courtney J’Mell Smith are captivating with stunning recording quality. Bassist Nate Edgar’s mastery of the low end is the heartbeat of every song and sits perfectly in the mix and pocket with the ferocious style of drummer Nikki Glaspie.
Live To Be Free starts off with "Freedom" a beautiful song with stellar synth fills and a message that eases you into the intensity to come. The notion that our reality is what we make it and "freedom is in your mind" is comforting and something we should all remember.
"Truth" is a revelation regarding the media addiction and misuse in our society. It is a call to action for us to decalcify our third eye, to critically think about the media and products we consume. "Spirit is our only weapon." "Stop buying their lies."
Third song “Joy” is like a soulful afternoon lying by the water with family and friends. It’s an audible delight to listen to and no matter where you are in life it reminds you everything will be alright, and love is all around.
Almost half way through the 10 track performance the band plays us a special rendition of “Right Now” a song previously released on their record Abundance about building your future and living in the moment. “ Take a long hard look in the mirror, that’s the one who won’t let you be free.” Other reworked songs from Abundance “Could It Be” and “Home” are a continued testament to the positivity and uplifting nature of this record. The final 3 songs “Thirsty”, “More and More”, and “Take My Soul” move eloquently with their multi-genre style touching on notes of funk, soul, and a dialled up move into rock on “Take My Soul.” “More and More” is an incredible display of Galspies endurance and skill on her kit. In combination with Cassarinos impeccable guitar styling it is an intense song to say the least. The last 3 minutes the band breaks it down as if to ease your audible pallet for the home stretch.
“Take My Soul” leaves nothing behind starting off with ferocious drum fills, distorted lead guitar lines and a hungry groove. The Nth Power displays a stunning move towards rock and the blues. Cassarino pleas for salvation and love in this final message to break free of the societal chains that at times have held us all back. Throughout “Take My Soul” the entire band lets go of all tension and you can feel it in every note.
Live To Be Free is an excellent example of what a live record can be with world-class material, talented musicians, and stunning production. Making you feel part of the show from the comfort of your home is a treat not to be missed (although I would have loved to be there LIVE). I can honestly say that Live To Be Free is a record in my collection I will turn to in times of turmoil and in peace. The Nth Power is not only a band to watch, but also a band to grow with. SO, go take a listen yourself and attend the next show near you!!
Enjoy!
